Different coaches hired the same year with completely different trajectories

Proven winner

Proven cheerleader

Beamer was hired before Heupel by almost a month and a half. While we might not have had any chance to get him from UCF, I'm betting the conversation was never had. Seeing them put up 40-50 points weekly and hanging with the Georgia's and Bama's of the world, makes me wonder how things might have played out if Ray would have given him a call.

Some schools, like Tennessee, surpass us in history, facilities, national brand, etc etc so its understandable how they do better.

But Indiana? Vandy? Indianas HC probably would be winning 8-9 a year consistently here. Hes done it everywhere he goes. Same as the Kansas coach.

While I agree with you on brands, Tennessee had gone through some real "stinkers" as coaches. (Derek Dooley, Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt) They were struggling until the Heupel hire. My point was, did we even ask? He proved himself at UCF and showed that he had a dynamic offense. We have a coach that can't find an OC that hasn't been a NFL reject. The other coaches that you mentioned, yep, I'd take any of them.

Some AD's hire search committees, some AD's go after top candidates and some AD'S are consulted by former players on who to hire.
