thinking about this makes me take a different view
Gebbia has seemed a team player. Everyone would describe him ,prior to this, as a mature, competent player and leader. He had bought into Nu and all the changes and has seemed optimistic throughout. He has been here for 2 and a half years.
What I think that has happened is that he has been overwhelmed by the fact Martinez is a superior talent. His hope of being a starter, or active contributor, has washed away. He has been so defeated emotionally he has no hope of beating Martinez so he wants to move on.
While this makes us vulnerable to an injury and the fatigue of the season, it points to the excellence of Martinez.
Pure depth has been damaged but not staring quality has been clarified

How do you figure Gebbia has been here 2.5 years?
Came in second half of senior year , redshirted and is here now. Splitting hairs.. he has completed 1.5 years and is the start of a second year.
Think substance, not semantics

BS. He felt slighted, and he bailed.

Wish him luck. I respect his decision. Qbs have a shelf-life, and he still has his youth.

Slighted equals “he is much better than me and I can’t hope to beat him in this system”

So you dreamed this up and you're 100% certain you're right. Classic. I think there might be just a slight chance that he thinks he's actually the better player.

Well wtf do you think people have been doing here?
Everyone asks why did he leave ?
I am presenting what Imo, may be the reason. If you can’t think beyond this sorry the genetic lottery left you a loser. It could be wrong but I am trying to answer the questions behind the inital responses.
I have been around real talent in other sports . The realization that you can’t compete is unsettling
Besides all this, it makes me more excited about Martinez

It’s been a long time since I have witnessed something so selfish.

Litespeed had the post of the day nailed down with his coffee confession and then came this deliberate act designed for nothing more than to grab the spotlight away from him.

Disgusting.

It’s likely Gebbia understands that if he can’t beat Martinez now, it’s unlikely to happen going forward.

Frost was very clear that it was a competition. In the judgement of the coaches Martinez was the best. Looking at it from Gebbia’s standpoint he would sit the bench most of the year and then have to compete next year with Martinez and a guy that understands Frost’s system forward and backward. I don’t know if he would be disalusioned by what’s happened or just realize he did his absolute best and his skills really didn’t fit the new system. I’m sure Gebbia would never have been on a Frost QB recruiting list so nobody, including the coaches should be surprised he’s leaving. I actually have high respect for him because, by all accounts, he did his absolute best to learn the system, be a good teammate and work as hard as he could.

I agree, he is one slight injury or the wear and tear of the season, from being the starter.
What everyone forgets is he is talented kid that is a kid ! Immature. Male brains don’t stop developing until they are I their late 20s, some from this site never do.
Troy Aidan transferred from out to UCLA because it didn’t fit his skill set. This may be Gebbia , at least I his kind

What everyone forgets is that we have numerous transfers TO our team every year. No one says, "You selfish loser, you quit at the first sign of adversity?" Its a fact that Tre Neal is here because he wasn't going to start at UCF.

I think I agree.

We need a big QB transfer, but it's hard to recruit guys as backups.

I hope this means Martinez is the real deal.

This isn’t Pro Football where a back-up QB can sit the bench all year and maybe play in a game or two and earn a few million bucks doing it. Gebbia has a short shelf life, even shorter after a red shirt year, so if he has aspirations beyond college he’s got to put himself into a position to do showcase his talent. Of course, we can all remember a Husker QB that bided his time behind our greatest option QB, who thought about leaving but got chance to hold our team together during Tom’s first NC run. And then after those heroics, had to sit the bench again his entire senior year.

They didn't transfer a week before the season started.

Who cares? He was going to break in half after one hit, he is too skinny, doesn’t have a huge arm, can’t run, is a pro-style QB, Bunch is better anyway (it showed in the Spring Game) and was a Riley recruit. Why are you so broken up that he is leaving?
