Because the current big time donors are probably not going to withdraw their donations over the pregame music, but potential future donors might be more likely to become fans and therefore actual future donors if you make the game more attractive for them to attend.

No one is becoming a football fan because of the pre-game music. Really?

I don't wear head phones to a football game,
How does he play what the players want, when he doesn't play the actual song, he plays some dumb *** mix, minus instruments at times.
He blows.
I like a lot of the songs he plays but he makes his own versions up that suck.
I'm there, I see players get excited when he plays an intro to a song they like, they start moving and he sabotages it by changing it before it gets going, players look up at him wondering what the hell he's doing.
I see it, I'm right there.
I think the game music is excellent, the choice of songs the dance team performs to are great because they play the actually song.
Like you Zap I like watching the warm ups and get there early. I see the same thing as you. The players reactions are priceless. I have witnessed them outright pointing in his direction and booing when he cuts off songs before they get going. This is not name that tune, play only three notes mix. It is warm ups let the music play out.

Does "play the damn song" mean the players like it?
I think not.

No one is becoming a football fan because of the pre-game music. Really?

Enjoying your self at any event helps wanting to go back.
People have been turned off by the littlest of things and casual fans become true fans
because of getting to like the team. It helps to make sure they enjoy themselves when they go to an RU home game.
So RU must make going to the game as enjoyable as they can to the fans, casual or true, that go to RU FB games and try to make sure they enjoy every part of being at HPSS.

The atmosphere surrounding the game is an important aspect of wanting to be at the game , instead of watching it on TV or finding something to enjoy when RU is at home.

Was crowd rocking Saturday night? Yes it was, stop complaining.
He has less than zero to do with our crowd rocking, you can thank the team for physical, inspired play for that.
I'll complain when I feel like it, the players get pissed at the DJ and it bothers me…if you don't care about that so be it.

I do wish it was not quite so loud and that we would hear more New Jersey bands--Springsteen, Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes,John Eddie,Red House,Eddie Rabbitt,After The Reign, etc.

This! We are New Jersey's State University. "We're Having a Party" should be a signature song for every post game win. Instead we get The Beastie Boys? No vision or branding! Always thought the drums to "Badlands" would make a great entrance song. And everyone loves the Rogue's version of our Alma Mater. Why not incoporate it?

You make no sense. DJ Yoshi himself came on this board and said that he has nothing to do with in game music or experience. So he had nothing to do with the energy during the game.

I think our atmosphere and gameday production keeps getting better

Of course I'm older....but I likes what we had

Btw...the music was not all that different at penn state when I visited last month

Bands dominating the music are a thing of the past...good, bad or indifferent

How the hell would DJ Yoshi slip in the multiple DJ Yoshi shout out samples if he played the actual song. I was in early Saturday night, and I heard more "DJ Yoshi" words than any other words during warm ups.

Not sure I buy that. If the players didn't like it, then they'd stop using him

i think they'd love to hear their track....but on the whole i think they love it...you can tell the away teams tend to love it, which is one of those double edged swords, gets them just as fired up as it does our team & fans.

i'm nearly 40, on the whole, I enjoy it, feels like a night at the old Melody upstairs on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday :)

don't have a problem with the pregame stuff its the in game stuff was dreadful, it was much better when they played a variety of stuff and a lot of dance music, now it seems geared toward rap/hip hop more than dance

EDM is the most popular music in NJ for the millenial generation. We should play it. Oldtimers are going to whine. Your parents complained about the Beatles, do you sound any different?
Why do the players get pissed?

"EDM", a side from being a term few in that world really use, is so vast that you might as well just use the term music.

I got to the stadium early for the first time in a long time and I thought DJ Yoshi was great. I'm 35 and he had me amped up for the game. If they had a DJ playing pre-game while I was at RU, I might've made more than one game.

Zap, you are looking at this from an older perspective.

Guido's might like "EDM", but they are hardly alone. It is a massive, global business that is huge in a number of areas in the world. My buddy's company manages a couple of the top DJ's in the world. They are pulling in more cash than Coldplay. Inexpensive too. A memory stick and some computer equipment. No band members, trucks of speakers and equipment, just one guy.

Some of those guys are arguably the most famous musicians on the planet, and get paid like it.

I ask all those who say "It's what the students like" to make one simple observation:

When all the EDM, Rap, Club etc. is playing you see patches of the student section actively cheering/moving to the music.

When 7 Nation Army, Don't Stop Believin', (The traditional) Metallica, AC/DC and MUSIC of that ilk comes over the speakers the entire student section comes alive. Every time.

Why not give the kids what they really want? And based on simple observation it's not a f**king club atmosphere. It's a rock show.

Just watch.

Edit: Oh yeah, and that mashup of Down With The Sickness was an abomination. To take a song like that and try to make it dance-able at a football game is a crime.

While at the FSU Miami game this week... I couldn't help but think about the RU Rivals board ! Why? The video boards had busted panels and the speaker system came from ONE end of the stadium and you couldn't hear the refs calls all game. All I kept thinking is, this would be a 3 page thread on here. Lol.

I think it's the opposite, not sure what you're watching??

You're a NJ Guid
A good loud "Welcome to the jungle" would rock that stadium to death, including the students.
My kids like One Republic, Imagine Dragons.
They drink to down and dirty country.
They love classic rock...Nirvana, Metallica, ACDC...
And what you don't get, is the players moan because the DJ won't "play the damn song"

This post really makes you sound old and out of touch, no offense.
EDM is extremely popular and only gaining, and is now played at everything from tailgates to weddings to birthdays. Many of the students and young alumni (including myself) respond very well to it. Rock is okay in smaller amounts, but doesn't give the south endzone the same "kick" that EDM and certain hip hop tracks do.

I do agree with you that there is no reason for DJ Yoshi to spin his way out of a song very prematurely, and actually hate it when DJ's do that. One in Montreal managed to empty out a club within an hour because he couldn't play a single song for more than one minute at the most.

Ill give the in game guy some credit...he still played Crazy Train and that's always a crowd pleaser

Don't Stop Believin had a revival 10-12 years ago....but that was 10-12 years ago, its not these students classic song to listen to anymore

To call these 'recorded sound/music editors', or DJs, to call them musicians is an insult to all real musicians.

You hit the nail on the head, yes I'm old, but I still like good hip hop songs, if you play them out…he doesn't , and for the 10th time the players look up at him and get pissed.
I disagree with you slightly on what kids like, certainly EDM is popular at dance clubs but it doesn't go well in drinking bars and kids go to drinking bars as well.
By the way, songs like Fancy and Watch me are great songs that everyone loves, I don't consider them EDM

Just when I start to feel like and old man I read a thread suggesting Eddie Rabbit to pump up the players and fans. This thread is like the fountain of youth.
