DL coach update?

We can still hire good coaches or even great coaches. But the angst, disappointment and anger over getting or not getting a certain coach who's name got floated out there by his agent is something fans need to keep in better perspective.

For the record, I’m not disappointed the DL coach wasn’t hired. I’m disappointed that the man had to basically go thru a whole different staff in 3 years!!! That’s awful.

And the reason I still and many come here, is because Matt Rhule isn’t Nebraska football. He isn’t bigger than the program. He’s just a moment in time of the program. This era will pass. I’ll always be here. During the good and bad

And the one thing I’ll give Matt credit for is he, himself says he deserves the criticism

What happened to you leaving this board because of all of the negativity? Is the ******** and enormous time waste that goes on here just too much of a lure? Not knocking you because I post on here too.
I did not leave the board temporarily because of all the negativity on here. I left after our Minnesota loss because I was disgusted with Rhule’s BS compared with the actual product on the field. I have not watched a single game since then. Tired of wasting too much time on a clearly subpar coach/program/team. I still have very little hope that Rhule is the answer. He strikes me as a snake oil salesman.
But I did come back to posting occasionally on here. I am Lincoln born and raised. Sold coke in the stands as a teenager in the 70’s. Bleed Husker Red. Can’t not still be a fan on some level. But I am definitely dialing back the time spent watching this team. Last year I attended the Pinstripe Bowl. This year I won’t even watch. We are going to get annihilated. Don’t want to waste my day.

Got it. To me, spending time on this board is an even bigger waste of time than watching the games. But I didn't go to all of the home games this year-- other family used the tickets-- and I'm considering not getting tickets next year. And I actually missed three games on TV. I no longer try to change plans just to watch a game. I missed the Minnesota game entirely. Didn't even listen or radio or get updates. As for the other two games that I heard on the radio, Damon Benning is brutal as a color commentator. Just horrible.

No arguments there. And I didn't really intend for my comments to be directed at you in particular.

Looks like he played us to get a higher payday for himself. Hopefully we have someone else to fill the role. Someone with college experience and recruiting connections.
You are stupid. ER was making 1.2 million at A$M the first go around. He got butt hurt he didn’t the DC job at A$M so he left and took that position at Syracuse .he realized he wasn’t cut out to be a DC when He got demoted. Don’t know what happened at LSU with lane but we were in good position then A&M called and that’s where he always wanted so he took it . He didn’t use Rhule for anything.

They didn’t hire anyone else because they still currently have 2 defensive line coaches. If they get ER it will be a major fail for Rhule.
They are in the playoffs Einstein. They are not going to make any staff moves until their season is over .

Names not Einstein and I wasn’t commenting that they should or shouldn’t make any staff moves. I was saying that they have not hired ER yet because they still have 2 DL coaches. Get it?

It’s definitely a surprise how I feel about the bowl game. We didn’t go to one for so long, last year was definitely excited for it. Now it’s like it’s the playoffs or bust. And I’m sure most CFB fans feel that way. Last night I was thinking it was crazy to imagine a home game a few days before Christmas, what a different game it all is now.

It should be playoff or bust, that's just the way it is now. Like it or not, and I definitely don't like what college football has turned into.

NU should be flirting with it every year. We're still not close

I tuned the team out for all but 10 minutes since Rhule was given an undeserved extension. The program not being serious about winning opened up my Saturdays. The bowl game will be unwatchable, as are all non-CFP bowl games. It’s CFP or bust anymore.

Well, at least he'd be finally doing something related to coaching football at Nebraska.

Assuming it doesn't conflict with his other pursuits of attending other campus sporting events and podcasting.
I didn't ever mind him attending campus sporting events. Podcasting though when we aren't a regular playoff team comes off poorly.

When the courts got involved with NIL and opened the genies bottle there was no way to put that genie back into the bottle. Bowl games use to be a fun time of year when you rooted for your school and you knew all your favorite players were going to play unless they were injured or got into trouble. Now, the only way you see your favorite players and team complete play is to make the playoffs. So bottom line judges in black robes robbed many of the joy during the holiday season, the Grinch lives on.

Absolutely agree. Crazy how now making a bowl game feels empty no wonder players opt out. Run the playoffs to 24 and call it quits to the bowl games

David Lose from SDSU seems logical. He was with Aurich at Idaho and came with him to SDSU. Maybe will coach SDSU in the bowl game then come over. Just a guess.
More than likely. I’d love to see the Michigan DL coach slide over instead though.

What is funny to me is that Nebraska fans set and expectation of who the DL coach was going to be based on internet rumors, then are disappointed and for some reason blame the head coach for not doing what was necessary to hire this potential coach when that guy was quite possibly not even approached about the job or showed no interest in the job.
Pure cope.

I stopped watching Nebraska games because of health reasons, my heart couldn't take it any longer (quad bypass) about 10 years ago I'm 74 years old now and in pretty good health. I record games and if they seem worth while I'll watch and if they don't I'll delete them and never watch. I don't know if things will ever change but I will forever be a fan of Nebraska football good or bad, I'm hooked.

I still watch them I just don’t live by each play I’m more relaxed simply you know something bad will happen when bo was at his last years you could predict when Nebraska would lose it was simple when he’d blow up game over. Riley era was like watching an old man who had no business coaching, and frost his teams were so undisciplined was usually a penalty or turn over or stupid play call. Rhule I still hold out he can turn it around but my faith in down to 50%. With Rhule I wish he’d just shut up stop blowing smoke up our a$$ tell us he has a lot of work to do Instead, his mouth gets him into more trouble than anything. He needs to have several assistances that can valuate talent

I feel like that’s what Rhule is saying now. We just have a huge fan base and giant media core that asks him a lot of questions 1766262110687.png

I was in a small locally owned independent grocery store that has the best beer selection in town late yesterday afternoon when Stan the manager came up to me and asked, "Is Nebraska in a bowl?". I was not thinking anything about bowl and in the old days that was never the case. I glumly responded, "Yea and the Huskers are going to get killed!". He asked who they were playing and I told him Utah.

Same with me. I have no heart problems, but my blood pressure was spiking so much my RN wife sat me down a couple of years ago and told me I had to stop going crazy watching the Huskers. I am not perfect, but I am a lot better behaved. I think it is more resignation than anything else. It just seems to be repeat of the same old ineffective crap. I've watched every second of every game for so long it is hard to change. Maybe it is time to just go bird hunting on Saturdays.

I still believe every once in awhile nice things happen for good people, so I'm still hoping things work out for the good fans of Nebraska who have been loyal all these years. I know it's a very long shot but every now and then miraculous things happen.

Why didn’t you write that then before Rhule said he wasn’t hiring a DL coach until after the bowl? You had no idea. Why did it take A&M so long to clear it up as well? He has been “available” for more than a week.
I was all over it as soon as the delays started and said so. Rhule is incompetent, just assume the worst and you'll probably be right.

We just have to hope for the best. I am done buying tickets. The new ticket lottery system is going to backfire on NU. The fan base has given the program so much financial support over the years, this is a real slap in the face to longtime fans. The lunkhead AD handing out a contract extension was and is insanity, the idea that "oh we upped Matt's walk away buyout to 15 million" while raising the programs contract buyout for firing him to something like 84 million ranks right up there with the Louisiana purchase. Odds of Matt walking away for a better offer and a better job 3%, odds of NU wanting to fire him at some point in the near future 88%....Dannen got royally bent over and then had the gall to tout Matt's buyout of 15 million while somehow avoiding the rest of the story, which is we are on the hook for over 80 million if we fire him. The incompetence begins at the AD level. I for one think it is time to devote more financial resources to the Basketball and Volleyball programs, and perhaps even Baseball to a lesser extent. I think you can spend a lot less and still get a 7-6 team, which is our ceiling. Those other programs seem to be on the rise while the football program, for the most part, has been a trainwreck since Bo was fired. To think of all the millions wasted on buyouts, overpaying staff, etc these last years is depressing. Matt will be here at least another four years. The AD should be shown the door tomorrow. And LPD should seriously consider charging him with vandalism of the football program.

When Rhule gets fired two years or so from now we will look back and realize that his failure resided in a complete inability to put together a competent and stable coaching staff. Doesn't our third new DC in four years have any connections for DL coaches? Another year, and another round of Rhule looking for new coaches. And I don't want to hear any bullsh$t about how this is a different era of college football and it is much harder to keep quality coaches around. Because our issue is not keeping quality coaches around. Our issue is that Rhule keeps hiring crap coaches like Satterfield and Butler and Raiola (retained simply to get Dylan) and Bradden. Heck, I even think Tony White is overrated.

Great coaches begin with the ability to hire other great coaches. Rhule? Fail. All Rhule knows how to do is talk.
Or the facts. No great coach which means they’re a great recruiter is going to come here for any length of time unless they’re building their resume for 2 years. Too hard to recruit here. No one wants to live on a plane.

Well they have gone to 2 straight bowl games. That hasn’t happened in quite a bit. I guess I can enjoy the process without nonstop crying about what I think I am owed by a football team because 30 years ago we were great.
Ahhh “the process” again 😂 What process exactly? The one where our moron HC fails EVERY year at hiring coaches? Or the one where we completely forget to recruit D lineman in a league where that may be the most important position? Or maybe the process of letting an immobile, ZERO pocket presence 19 year old QB who can’t make a throw beyond 20 yds to save his life basically run the program?
