Do any of you folks own a Kia Forte?

My daughter is turning 16 in a couple of months so we have started car shopping. I have never owned a Kia but she likes the looks of the Forte. They seem reasonably priced and have a great warranty but I just have no experience with a Kia at all.

My wife has a 2015 Forte with a turbo.
Been a good car so far. Draw backs are the low profile tires deliver a rough ride for my liking. Gas millage is good on highway but kinda poor for in town driving.

Love my CPO KIA Sorento.

Everyone thinks KIA still sucks like they did to start, just like Toyota in the 70’s. So they have to make up for it with exceptional value. Take advantage of it while they’re still fighting perception by undercutting the competition.

Not heard much good about Kia...an older Camry or Ford Focus might be a better bet. I also agree that a first car should be a 4 cylinder beater...they’re gonna trash it

Go to Hertz. They have 1-2 year old 40,000 mile used cars at a very reasonable price. Look at Hyundai also. Same thing. I like the next size up (Optima, Sonata) for teens as more body mass gives a little more protection.

They put lo-pros on everything now. My wife's SUV has them, completely defeating the purpose of an "off-road capable" vehicle AND makes the ride rougher than it could be. I don't understand it.

Seeing a jacked up truck with huge rims and lo-pro OR tires is a dead giveaway that that truck will never actually see any dirt.

I’d go for a Corolla or Camry. Will last forever if you take care of them.

Those are some hard miles. I'm sure I won't be the only one to chime in on this. But I have put the dog-whipping on many a rental in my day. Particularly anything from JFK going way out on long island. It's a race track.

I have a 2011 Kia Sportage that has been one of my favorite vehicles. I have had it since 2015 without any issues. Only thing I don't like is the suspension is a bit stiff. You notice the bumps in the road more than my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe.

Kia has come a long way from the days of buying one car and getting one free. Everything about them back then was very cheap and low quality. I believe A/C was an option back then as well.

Here's a comparison of how far they've come in the 16 years from the first model to what I have.

1995 version

2011 like mine

I know that isn't about the Forte, but just giving some of my experience with the brand. I was going to get a Kia Optima (Forte's big brother) back before I got this, but it is to hard for me to get in and out of cars with my bad neck and back.

I think we may have found her a Toyota Corolla. Low miles and a pretty good price. My wife and other daughter have Camry's and they have been great cars so I may go that way.

Might I suggest getting your kid a standard shifting car. That way, it will make it much more difficult trying to text/talk on the phone while driving.

That’s a nerve wrecking time for parents. Don’t have anything to add to the thread Creed, I’ve never owned a Kia. I am convinced though that all new drivers should have to start out in a dump truck with the snow plow attached.

Hyundai owns Kia now, btw. Have owned both and like Hyundai's better. Little quieter, little better ride, little fancier for almost the identical price. Both are pretty well-made with a ton of safety features and will run very well if taken care of. Toyota and Honda are great, too, but they're not as easy to get a really good price when shopping. I sold my Hyundai Sonata to my daughter for a steal when she graduated college and she hasn't had a lick of trouble with it except for the damn hail here in Denver. All of the above brands are pretty darn solid. Just gotta find the right deal.
