Do we have to change our handle to the email address?

I was going to use my credit score.

Would that be wrong?

It has occurred to me that I am going to have to log out and then log in. Dammit.

Does anyone know why they changed the process?
I imagine they want a unique identifier for the login ID. By using your handle it likely made it difficult for a user to change their handle without creating a new account. Using an email as the User/login ID would make changes in user "handle" easier.

The accounts don’t work ‘cause the vandals took the handles

I believe another reason is to make it more difficult for someone to hack into an account. If you can login with your handle, a hacker would already have half of what they need. They could then possibly guess a weak password. OTOH, our email addresses aren't visible (or shouldn't be) so the hacker now won't even be able to start the login process unless they're really good at guessing email addresses.

“I knew Bob’s account was hacked. He suddenly seemed intelligent.”
