Do you eat at "all you can eat" buffet places?

Even prior to Covid it seems disgusting to me to eat the food that a dozen croc wearing slobs have stuck their hands in. It isn't as bad if it's a place that has all you can eat but they bring it from the kitchen like Sonny's BBQ but I just can't do places like Golden Corral.

Used to hit up the Chinese buffets but it's been a long time. I liked the Sizzler when I was a kid but I wouldn't think I would enjoy that anymore. And I ate at Ryan's once because thats where my Grandparents wanted to eat.

There’s a place in Ville Platt LA, Cajun catfish and seafood buffet that’s really good food. Family owned maybe 5 employees but it’s not a huge spread of trays with 100 people at a time. The catfish is unreal delicious as is the seafood and seats about 40 people but everything you want is in there. I think on Saturdays they have frog legs and the beer is cans only kept in a huge cooler that you have to get yourself 🍺
So if any of you goes to Ville Platt make sure you eat there 🍺

The lady owner at the one in my hometown has a reputation of scraping food people don't eat back into the buffet bar. Also one day a lady I know found a cockroach in her food she had ordered and when she showed it to the owner she told her it wasn't a bug that it was just ashes and it was okay to eat it. 😂

I haven't eaten at a Chinese buffet in at least a decade, and I ate at Golden Corral exactly once because I went with a friend.

That part, I suppose I just overlook.

I enjoyed them as a child and as a young adult.

What turns me off today are the abundance of so many very large people partaking. I am not talking beer gut. I'm talking “If they didn’t ride in on a scooter, it’s because it’s on order.”

It’s like eating with a hundred cautionary tales.

Not once I saw a kid dip his toy into the chocolate fountain.
I've actually watched a kid barehand stuff through it. Everyone did, including staff. They didn't even tell the little pork chop to stop doing it. F#@& that place.

I used to like the Hometown buffet because my picky kids could get whatever they wanted, but they suck so bad I won't go to any of them any more.

I did as a kid, sometimes as an adult. Usually as part of a group. I try to block it all out, and stick to the safest things. I'll wait until a new batch is brought out. Probably doesn't matter, though.

In college we used to go to the Shoney's all you can eat shrimp with soup and salad bar. We would walk out and could barely stand up straight because we ate so much. It was more of a contest who could eat the most fried shrimp.

This thread reminded me -- who else remembers this?

CBS: Williamsburg, KY buffet caught serving road kill

"Two of the workers came in wheeling a garbage can and they had a box sitting on top of it. And hanging out of the garbage can, they were trying to be real quick with it. So that nobody could see it. But there was like a tail, and a foot and leg. Sticking out of the garbage can and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen," adds Hopkins.

Hopkins, who described the scene that left a trail of blood across the floor as 'very disturbing,' called the health department immediately.

Where are these places and yes even more so. I’d wear crocs on my hands if they made em.
I wear crocks from Cabela's that were way to expensive but my wife is a duntz and didnt realize what I meant when I said I wanted crocks. She got these mossy oak-croc colabs loll. Still extremely comfortable though......and I have to rock them at every outdoor event or bbq.

Haven’t been to one since March 2020. I don’t mind a good buffet though.

Happy Dragon on Newtown in Lexington is the last one I had. Seems like forever ago.

My boys always wanted Golden Corral on their birthday up until a few years ago. Twice a year was enough of that. Let’s just say I got my money’s worth.

If Quincy’s or Ryan’s were still around, I’d probably go there, but alas.

Just hit up Mr. Gattis this past Saturday. As I get older though, just turned 69 on the 10th, I don't feel like I get my moneys worth. Go to Golden Corral and Chinese Buffets too. As Andrew Zimmern says, if it tastes good, eat it!

No... but there was an exception. Not sure if it is still there. Out towards Irvine next to a Pizza Hut before you crossed the bridge in Irvine there was an old couple that had a country buffet that we would stop at a few times a year and it was great. Haven't been out that way in several years though.

I just checked Google Map and it isn't there anymore. Looks like a Hardees and a Rite Aid were put where the Pizza Hut and that great Buffet were. Old family probably died out.

It's not the cleanliness that keeps me away from places like Golden Corral. It's that somehow they manage to make the macaroni and cheese taste like the green beans.

The macaroni and cheese may taste like the green beans, but does the ice cream taste like the macaroni and cheese?

I remember that place from years ago; good grub. Not sure whatever happened to them.

I’m the same as you. I used to crush them when I was young, but now if I go over-eat at one I just feel like bloated garbage for the rest of the day. I’m also 50 pounds overweight and am aware of it.

I recently went to Golden Corral because a buddy wanted to eat there for his birthday. He’s way bigger than me. My primary observation was most people in there - myself included - didn’t need to be eating a buffet.

Haven't eaten at one in years and don't plan to. Too many nasty mothertouchers out there who leave restrooms without washing their hands. If you're not washing your hands after you take a leak or dump, you're probably not washing them before you eat either, or probably at any point during the day. Then you have the sneezers, coughers and the snot nosed kids who stick their hands in and grab stuff.

Not much of a buffet person, hit up the one at Caesar's about 4 years ago. Probably won't go to another buffet, nothing will top it.

Been there and it was good. Stayed years ago at the Circus Circus a couple times. At the time they advertised that they had the largest breakfast buffet in the world. I believed them....longest buffet with the most on it I've ever seen.

I was at a Ryan’s once and saw a guy sitting on two chairs (I kid you not). The only thing that was more shocking was the fact he wasn’t sitting AT the buffet.
