Funny that all this gay talk is brought up in a thread about buffets. Maybe bi sexual would be a better discussion among buffet goers? A little variety.

Not that I remember.......my friend lives in Baton Rouge.......when we go down he takes us to the good places......I have an aunt and cousins that live in Layfayette...same with them.......I have eaten at a lot of great places in their area......my buddy has the place in Ville Platt that I spend a lot of money to have his sausages and meats shipped overnight..........I do remember a place called the Magnolia Cafe in St Francesville, LA....and Louisianna Lagniappe Resturaunt.....we ate at a little hole in the wall across the river from Baton Rouge.....my buddy said to not let the ambiance or lack there of to scare us......we had been seated about 10 minutes on a really busy day......the waitress asked us if we minded company.,.....it was the sheriff and one of his friends.........had a great meal and heard some funny stories about Baton Rouge's dumber citizens........my buddy's father designed some of the bigger buildings on LSU's campus......he has season tickets and has offered to fly us down to watch a UK game.......but only in seasons he things the Tigers can win.......

Im glad you know your way around and enjoy the best food in the world IMO 🍺

My friend Shrimpy... back in '52... had the hardest knuckles in the neighborhood... back then you rolled your sleeves up... nobody drank diet soda... first car was a '56 Ford... in school you zipped your lip... Shrimpy was always goin' on about something... didn't eat too much pizza or somehow the baking thing might get left on...

I assume the kitchen in any restaurant is disgusting. Buffet just adds a layer of unhygienic people handling the food. If I like it I go and hope I make my con check (nerd reference for some of you…. or is it a saving throw?). But, maybe I’m less inclined to take chances than I used to be.

And I feel a little safer at an Indian buffet because the clientele seems a bit different. Like the people you worry about at Golden Corral or even your local Chinese buffet haven’t developed a taste for Indian

Would love to try an Indian Buffet. We pass an Indian place in Huntington WV when we go to Red Lobster, but have never worked up the nerve to try it. I'm not an adventurous eater, if I can"t tell what's in a dish, I don't usually eat it.

No, I don't. Not out of sanitary concerns or anything else, I just don't. I remember going to Ryan's as a kid, where was that in Lexington? I feel like it was by the Red Mile but that doesn't seem right.

I'll tell you what I miss is Morrison's in Lexington Green. Loved going there and then going and picking out books afterwards. Then hopping over to Willis Music and test driving instruments.

There used to be fish camps in NC, mostly in the western part of the state, that were pretty good. Sadly, a lot of them have closed.

When I started working in the office the guys would go to Morrisons and some other places every day......after about a month of eating lunch like that every day I had an allergic reaction........my waist line started growing exponentially..............I had to start opting out of their lunches and coming home to eat sensibly........

My folks and grandparents would always take me there as a kid, would've been late 80s and 90s. Also miss Tony Roma's,no idea if the ribs were actually worth a damn but I loved them as a kid.

Morrisons was the only place I'd eat green Jello. For whatever reason I liked theirs

There was also Miller's Cafeteria on 2nd street between Chestnut and Walnut........I had done remodeling at Miller's a couple of times over the years.......every time I went there to eat.........the lady that owned it would always inquire if I knew where she could find a cheap carpenter.......I always replied that it was the same place as a $2.00 plate lunch was........... it was about $5 bucks to eat there then.......

I don't remember that place. May have been before my time
There was indeed a Ryan’s on red mile
Yes! I thought so. Close to where Central Equipment is now, right? Closer to Versailles Rd intersection than Broadway?

Ryan’s probably went out of business because of their pricing system. A buffet would cost like *9.99, or you could order steak tips and a side for like 6.99 and add the “salad” bar for 1.99. I think we weren’t supposed to eat the other food besides salad stuff, but there was no one policing it. It was like the Wild West.

* I have a good memory, but not that good. These prices used as an example even though they’re probably not far off.

Ryan’s also tried to corner the Gourmet steakhouse buffet market with a place called Fire Mountain. There was one on the opposite side of Hamburg across Man O’ War. Had a lot more choices and you could get steak and carved roast beef. Fun fact: Fire Mountain was the first place that I ever saw parents letting a kid watch a screen (small DVD player) during dinner.

I definitely never went to Fire Mountain. We didn't go out to Hamburg much when it was newer. Hell I still don't outside of Costco.

The last time i was in hilton head sc i ate at a buffet in shelter cove called captain somebody’s(?). it was like $30 and they had had a hell of a selection from crab legs, oysters, shrimp, white fish and southern side dishes. i definitely got my money’s worth. that was five years ago and i think they closed down since then. i think it was owned by the original owners of the salty dog.

Even prior to Covid it seems disgusting to me to eat the food that a dozen croc wearing slobs have stuck their hands in. It isn't as bad if it's a place that has all you can eat but they bring it from the kitchen like Sonny's BBQ but I just can't do places like Golden Corral.
Sirloin Stockade in Murray. But You have to wear gloves to get the food from the buffet. Used to be they had to get it for You, but the last time we were there gloves were provided at the end of the buffet. Great place to eat, but I can't eat like I could when I was in my twenties and thirties!

If you are in San Diego and like seafood, Tom Ham's Lighthouse Sunday brunch buffet is pretty killer. Crab legs, lobster claws, peel and eat shrimp, oysters and scallops on the half shell, pasta and omelet stations, and more. Tom Ham's

I love a good Indian buffet and tend to agree about the clientele, it's more relaxed and people aren't slinging food all over the buffet table. Went to a Golden Corral about two years ago because I was craving a salad bar - big mistake. I will never set foot in one of those again.

My grandparents loved those Shoneys breakfast buffets but hated Cracker Barrel. I remember once when I was a kid we stopped on the way to the beach and I wanted to stop at Cracker Barrel. My grandpa spent the whole time complaining. "Sawmill gravy? Who would want to eat that?!"

There's a buffet near Myrtle Beach named Simply Southern Smokehouse that is highly recommended. The line is usually an hour long for dinner. Wonderful down-home food.

Last dinner buffet I can recall is the one in the casino on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls ~3 years ago. Extremely underwhelmed.

Now a good BREAKFAST buffet, I will go for that most any time. Frisch's breakfast bar has been slipping in recent years, though.

And as an aside I wear crocs just about every d@mn day. Not the garish rubbery ones, but the crocs slip-on loafers like the Crocs Walu slip-ons. I don't like to wear socks any more, I have 4 pairs of these Crocs in different colors to coordinate with my clothes. Very comfortable and they last forever.
I hope I can one day ascend to this level.

Who the hell doesn't love some Barrel action? Biscuits and gravy for breakfast there are the best thing about road trips and vacations.

Absolutely love Cracker Barrel pancakes but their biscuits and gravy are awful. I was raised on breakfast gravy made from bacon grease poured on homemade bisquick biscuits so my standards are way too high to eat those in a restaurant.

It never made any sense to me. They'd eat waffle house and any random local dive. Loved wendys chili and big macs. but for some reason they felt they were above cracker barrel

Their gravy has a spice in it that i don’t like. can’t put my finger on what is but don’t like it. bob evans much better, also has good grits.
I like gravy without sausage chunks in it but haven’t found any place that serves it that way.

Some of the greatest country cooking women that have ever lived are in my family and they all make biscuits with bisquick. The key is the gravy that goes on them from bacon grease, flour, and a little milk for the gravy. Pure heaven.

Bisquick is cheating. I don't make the rules. I also have a mom, and my grandmother when she was with us, who are excellent country cooks from out in the hollers.

Doesn't change the fact that Barrel biscuits and gravy are also delicious.

It isn't about getting sick as much as it is that fat dude before me may have went and dropped a load to make room for more food, wiped his crack, didn't wash his hands and then come back out for 2nd's, 3rd's or 4th's. I don't care about eating anything that may have his feces on it but you do you.
