I would rather lose with Terry Smith rather than win with someone like Urban Meyer.
I’m not saying he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, but absolutely anybody could say the same thing. If you attach a name, then it means something to me.

I hope it's not Lane Kiffen. If that's Krafty Kraft's selection, so be it. He's going to struggle at PSU.
I vote not to hire Terry. I love the fact that he is a Penn State guy to the bone and that Joe button was a great move. I like that he is no nonsense and has gotten this team to play as a team, finally.
When I step back from the emotion of it all I have serious reservations on the ceiling of Smith. It is not like we just beat Ohio State and Indiana. We out talent MSU and Nebby big time. Yes he got the team to play hard but now do we think no other guy can do that? Many on this team that love Smith will probably not be here next year so you have to factor that in.
What has he done that is so miraculous? Told AK to wake the eff up and call a game that leverages our strengths? You would have expected Franklin to do that but he couldn't for some bizarre reason. He got the offensive line to play better. Again Franklin should have been able to do that.
At the end of the day I don't see enough of a discernible difference vs Franklin. Yes, he has accomplished things with this team that Franklin could not but there was something going on with Franklin that we don't know.
I just don't see him as the guy that can beat the big boys when we need to. Can the other candidates? I don't know but I have more confidence Chesney could, for example.
With all that said, the biggest thing Kraft needs to consider is where the big boosters, the BOT and the senior Admin people are. We need alignment across the board with the new guy. Kraft can't charge ahead and hire Chesney, for example, if many of the big boosters want Terry. It won't work and is doomed to fail. If all the key influencers want Terry then he needs to hire Terry. If Kraft can get genuine alignment for another guy then I would go in that direction.

If the only candidates are Fitzgerald and Al Golden, then hire Terry Smith.

This interim stuff seems to never work out very well. Maybe somebody has a good interim story somewhere, because I can't think of one.

Scotty Bowman Pittsburgh Penguins 1992. Although 1993 didn't go well. That is the best I can do and it is admittedly not very convincing.
I'm also not a fan of Lane Kiffin. I'd pass, but if he's the guy, I'm getting behind him just like I did with Franklin.
I certainly appreciatevTerry's love for PSU, his honesty and his efforts thus far. No doubt the players really like him and have given full effort. But, the Hire Terry Smith signs were too contrived, coupled with MRobs pronouncement. It all seemed so scripted. Not impressed with that
If no homerun hire then Chesney is my choice and if he turns it down, give Terry a shot.
Northwestern quit on him about like Penn State did on Franklin, but for different reasons. It's a tough line to walk these days between too soft and too tough.
