I had to work really hard the day of my birth. Plus my anniversary, birthday, and fathers day all fall same week. So I like to schedule vacation that week.

We get a day off for our birthday (take whenever). I have 4 weeks' of vacation. I schedule a vacation around my birthday every year.

I don't do this because I'm special, I do it because I want to be able to sleep in, go for a run, or do anything I want on the day that reminds me of my mortality.

Emphasizing birthdays is a very feminine thing. Like when they get pissed when some other female in the USA schedules her wedding for the same date as her's. "It's my day!" Or when someone schedules an event on her birthday "She did that to spite me..It's my day!"

Adults shouldn't care at all about birthdays. Not at all. I am mystified by the insane importance that some people attribute to celebrating a day that represents nothing. Everyone has a birthday and it occurs approximately 365 days from the last one. I hate Facebook reminding me every day of the fact that it is someone's birthday or anniversary. I hate the obligation of pretending to give ish about it. If it's an excuse to do something together as a family then it is always great to do that.

I can see taking off if it is a milestone Bday or if it pairs up nicely with an extended weekend. Other possibility is if you just have a ton of vacation days you need to burn, but taking off every year seems overboard.

My birthday is about a week before Christmas and where I work at UPS it is the busiest time of the year.
