MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 29, 2020) – Junior infielder Tyler Doanes and junior catcher/designated hitter Paul McIntosh of the West Virginia University baseball team have been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Doanes was one of five infielders selected to the team, while McIntosh made the squad as the designated hitter. In all, 18 players were recognized on the preseason team. The Mountaineers were one of five teams in the Big 12 to have multiple players represented.

A native of Fayetteville, Georgia, Doanes earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors after hitting a team-best .316 with five home runs, 32 RBI, 21 doubles, three triples and 40 runs scored last season. He also stole 20 bases, good for No. 3 in the conference. His 21 doubles ranked No. 21 nationally.

Doanes started 59 games at second base for WVU in 2019, and he was featured on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. As a freshman in 2018, Doanes was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and earned all-conference honorable mention honors.

McIntosh, a native of Miami Gardens, Florida, was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2019. In his debut season as a Mountaineer, he clubbed a team-leading 10 home runs with 34 RBI last spring. He hit .277 at the plate, tallying 10 doubles, a triple, 53 hits and 28 runs scored. McIntosh started in 51 games, 42 of them as the team’s designated hitter.

In addition to the league’s preseason team, the 2020 Big 12 Preseason Poll will be announced on Thursday.

West Virginia, which is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history last year, begins the 2020 campaign on Feb. 14, with a three-game series at Jacksonville. The squad’s home opener at Monongalia County Ballpark is slated for Feb. 18, against Canisius.
