Does anyone WANT the job?

No. They’re making ideally a 10-15 year decision, they can’t make decisions off the emotions of the moment. Terry is a longtime career assistant, that’s where his value is. PSU badly needs a leader who can implement an offensive identity , recruit and develop skill positions, hire a good defensive coordinator.

The reality is that Terry would probably do just as good a job, if not better, than some high priced mercenary that doesn’t give a **** about Penn State.

Franklin had reached his ceiling? We were a player's epic brainfart away from competing in the Natty game. I'll take that ceiling.

When Rhule took over at Temple, they had had one bad season ... he came in and made it worse before getting back (3 seasons later) to slightly above where they were prior, under the helm of uninspiring coaches.

When Rhule took over at Baylor, they had had one bad season ... he came in and made it worse before getting back to where they were prior.

When Rhule took over at Nebraska, they had had a ton of consecutive bad seasons under one awful coach ... he came in and made them mediocre (going from 4-8 to 5-7 in his first year ... woohoo!).

The point being, there's no indication from his decade+ long head coaching experience that he's going to do any better than Franklin ... likely, he'll do worse.

One huge criticism of Franklin has been his performance in "big games" and top ranked teams. Rhule has had equal futility, not just against TOP ranked teams, but ANY ranked teams. I think I read he was something like 2-22 against ranked squads all time. And I'm not sure if that was updated for this year, when he again hasn't been able to beat any ranked squads. They've never done anything in the postseason either - the one time in his career Rhule had a nationally relevant squad, not only did they go the whole season without beating a ranked opponent, they lost the conference championship game and the Sugar Bowl ... going 0-3 against ranked squads that year.

THAT appears to be HIS ceiling.

Except he takes a bit to get there, and it's likely his actual ceiling, going forward, is lower than that. His current Nebraska squad is underwhelming. There's no big breakthrough (season 3 or otherwise) likely on the horizon.

If you want to play that game … We were also a completely out of character crazy Julian Fleming 4th down catch vs USC from not making the playoffs.

There is zero chance the donor class at PSU green lighted Franklin's mid-season firing to go out and get Rhule. Whether it's in November or December, we will get a legitimate coaching candidate who will jump at the chance to earn $11-15M over 5+ years with performance incentives. If they strike out on established HCs, they'll go after a young coordinator (Brady, Stein, Hartline) before they go to plan F with Rhule.

You couldn't possibly read that post and be more wrong in your "conclusions" and attributions.

But I am sure you can try :)

[WTF was I thinking? Mea Culpa - no more unignores from me]
Oh no...you and your nonsense are going to ignore me

I’d like to think Kraft is running misdirection with Rhule as the decoy, but it’s more likely the Wildcat with Rhule taking the snap.

Wasn’t really worried but watched a show last night and Kraft has a long track record of hiring people he has worked with in the past. Jeff Hafley’s name even came up.

I’d rather see Penn State hire someone other than Rhule, and his NFL coaching career did not work out well.

But to be fair, the large majority of people at Temple, Baylor and likely Nebraska wanted him to stay.

In contrast, BGJ wore out his welcome among the majority of Penn State fans, even those like me who had supported him for a long time. That was even before I learned that he asked for yet another raise and extension this offseason.

Oh noes! We would have only been a really good squad, instead of a playoff squad! So we were anywhere from nearly-playoffs to nearly-Natty. The horra. (and we were referencing his hypothetical ceiling, not what could have gone wrong, so you were playing the wrong game).

We deserve better.
