I agree we struggle with tall teams, but we are who we are. Huggs will switch things up, but we will not drop back. We need to smack UK in the mouth and see how they respondOriginally posted by wvpaper:
UK is VERY tall at every position. And we struggle pressing teams with tall ball handlers. Kentucky has four 6' 6"+ guys that can handle the ball and throw over the press. Plus we also typically only have 2 of our bigs on the court at one time.
I'm thinking why not have a junk defense in our back pocket. Huggs has done it before, albeit not this year.
Your ideas might work if we still played in the Big Least...Originally posted by wvpaper:
personally, i would be tempted to install triangle and 2 over the next two days and plan to drop back into that in half court defense, forcing UK to take jumpers...
....just in case UK proves to be too big.
you're renowned for posts like this... and for moving on when you're proven wrong.Originally posted by KeatonsCorner:
Triangle and 2?
I literally laughed out loud..... A lot
This isnt Church League
a 1-3-1 full court is the backup "press" that I'd use. The front "1" makes it look like man-to-man just enough to bait someone into trying to throw it "over" the press.Originally posted by doctom4:
- 1-3-1 halfcourt trap....force the ball out of the hands of the guards, into the hands of 6'9" forwards down on the baseline.
I'm no coach. But c'mon man.... let's not pretend you really think you know more about basketball than me. That ship has sailed Google boy.Originally posted by KeatonsCorner:
LOL!
You're comparing the strategy for a 2-player Marquette team (Wesley Matthews, Jerel McNeal) with a roster than has 10 NBA draft picks on it............. and think that focusing on 2 guys is going to neutralize UK?
Man, you really don't know the game of basketball in the least.
That "triangle and 2" defensive scheme used in 2008 forced a whopping total of 13 TOs, against a team that already averaged ............ get this............... 13 turnovers a game! LOL!
"But it flustered the shooters"........ nope. The 2008 Marquette team was already a very average scoring team, 42% that day against WVU
No. What you did was google "Huggins" "Triangle and 2"............ and tried to form some ******** analysis on your "idea".
Like I said.............. triangle and 2 is for church league and the local YMCA.
What won that game that day? WVU shooting nearly 50% from the field....... despite averaging a fg% of 45% for the season
but, yes........... it is a genius idea to utilize a defensive scheme that WVU has used once in the last 8 seasons....lol!
well, crazy guy, are you finished throwing your fit?Originally posted by KeatonsCorner:
So, you just want to clog the lane with a 3-man zone........ because UK is bigger than us, right? I ask again, what does that idea accomplish that our current 1-1-3 zone attack defense doesn't?
