Cal is gonna take Pope to the woodshed yet again. He will own us and Pope until we get a coach that can recruit and motivate.

I wouldn’t go that far. Arkansas is a 5-6 seed type team. Beat Samford by 4 and Winthrop melted down and they beat them by 1. Lost to only good teams they’ve played to this point. They’ve only look ever so slightly better than how awful we’ve looked before tonight.
I thought they looked good against Duke until Cal had his usual end of game choke.

They’ve had moments, but they’ve struggled against far inferior teams quite a bit this season as well. That’s typical for Cals teams though. That’s why I said they’ve only looked slightly better, odds are we finish with a similar record to them at years end.
Our only hope for a deep run is a 90%+ healthy Lowe and JQ to be back mid month and be as good as advertised and play 25-30 minutes a game. We “might” be a top 10 team in that scenario. Unfortunately both those happening is very unlikely and it’s more likely we lose 11-13 games and get a 5-8 seed depending on how other teams fair.
Cal was his own worst enemy here by being, well himself. He thought he was bigger than UK basketball, he found out differently. If we have to go through a lull because of it so be it. Pope appeared to be the right man for the job initially despite the early pessimism but now pessimism has taken the lead back. If recruiting doesn’t turn around which appears unlikely and this year results in missing the tournament (likely) then UK admin has a very tough decision facing them. We can’t go into a 3rd year of pope with low expectations, that’s trending downward from where he took over and when your headed in the wrong direction action must be taken.

It’s a good question. At a certain point I think it’s better to start looking for that than remain content to be a solid non threat, which we had been for going on at least 6 years at thst point.
In this day and age you gotta take a gamble on someone unproven with the potential to become that. Golden. Hurley. are examples. I’d say scheyer is a threat as well. Try to find the next one of those. may take a couple of attempts. but that’s where we are in the sport now.

Look at how well Michigan has looked this year. Now a coach like that is merely a dream because he probably won’t take another job now and we’re stuck with a guy who never won a conference title or even a tournament game until last year. Thanks Mitch Barnhart.
What it’ll take is for boosters and friends of the Kentucky program to put out feelers with elite coaches around the basketball world to get a good idea who would be willing to come here. It has to start now, immediately, even with Pope seemingly here for another year, which he shouldn’t be if we end up missing the tournament.
