"Does Louisville have the potential" is a reworded version of "is there a chance"... Sure, anything's possible. Hell, they built an arena that was going to be hopelessly underwater financially from Day One. The better analysis is to present the financial facts and experience and try to base your arguments...
What we know...
- The ULAA lost $17 million last year.
- ULAA operations (football/basketball) are down $8 million so far this year.
- Petrino's buyout is $12-14 million.
- Brohm's buyout is $3 million.
What we can assume...
- Brohm's new contract will cost $5 million per year.
What's probably true...
- The ULAA can't raise much, if any, money for special purposes and projects.
- Pitino will cost at least a few million to settle his lawsuit.
The first group of bullets represent north of $40 million in known additional costs if Brohm is hired and since Tyra took over. Brohm's contract will probably cost about a million more than Petrino's annually. I'll wag that Pitino and additional deficits (nonoperating) we will experience this year could be as much as $10 million.
So you have $50 million in costs plus an ongoing cost of a million annually if Brohm were to come here. Where we stand today that we know about is about half that...
