The team does the following this week:

--500+ yards of offense

--40+ points

--Holds NMS to 300 yards total offense and less than 20 points

Probably won't get a total pass with those numbers but will take the temperature down a notch from white-hot

Let's be honest here. I know New Mexico State sucks, but based on what I have seen thus far we are more likely to lose to them then put up those kind of numbers. I think we win this maybe 35-17 or something so I am not saying I think we lose, I'm just saying we are more likely to lose than put up 500 yards of offense.

Reprieve from what? This game is a lose/lose all around. It doesn't matter much if we win and if we lose...well...

6-6 gets him a reprieve from most fans.
5-7 might get him another season.
4-8 gets him fired for sure.

The only reprieve this staff gets is if they can get this team to 3-3 going into the bye week. That still will give them a chance for a bowl game. But if they loose to SC or vandy then it will get worse. The southern miss loss was not bad...it was how they lost. The Florida loss was bad...it was how they lost. SC or vandy would both be a bad loss. Can't afford it at this point. Have to target 3-3 and get to that goal!

Yeah 3-3 Target and shot for a UGA OR UT upset later in season. Not holding my breath.

The popular narrative is to focus on the record which while important, the product on the field is the bigger issue. We have so many bad-subpar teams on our schedule this year we could still win 4-5 possibly 6 games and still look bad doing it. Just because we beat a bad football team that plays crappier than us that one particular Saturday does not mean we are making strides. Getting curb stomped at Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisville and at home against Georgia are all but foregone conclusions and if that ends up being the case then honestly I could care less what happens with the rest of our schedule.
