Does the #1 of 1's always get the play in winner?

Not necessarily. They pair them with sites close to Dayton to minimize travel. So if we played in Seattle for example (we wouldn't but just hang with me), we would get a 16 who didn't play in a play-in.

Though that's what I first assumed, no.

Personally I think those games are pointless. They're just made for TV to capitalize on the fever pitch the NCAA tournament creates.

No. They don't. Last time we were the #1 overall and got the screw job we didn't get the playin. I believe they also try to pair them with Friday/Sunday locations, and we aren't one. So don't expect us to get a playin game winner.

We didn't get it in recent years as the top 1 seed. I am pretty sure we were the top 1 seed in 2010 and Duke got the play in winner.

It's different now since they expanded to 68. In the past, the play-in winner had to go to a Fri/Sun site. That's not the case anymore with them playing those games over two days.
