Does the Extra year get us to 85 scholarship players?

With players given the extra year with no penalty, does that allow WVU to finally get back to 85 scholarship players? How is that going to work this year with it not counting against the players?

Would depend on how many are staying and how does this affect the recruiting for 2021.

As I see it right now on the chart, we have 10 spots open. And Probably Kendall, Simmons, Mike Brown, Chase B, Pooler, The Stills brothers, Fields and maybe a couple others move on. I don't think all 17 seniors move on as they would not go anywhere after college, so might as well get another year of free education. So let's say that 15 of them move on opening up 25 total spots. We can sign 25, does that get us there? Just asking because I think this could help get WVU to a full roster again or at least within 5. I don't see any juniors leaving early except Stills. And if more of them stay, then we definitely get to 85.

What is practically impossible for us to track is the dynamics. Did you see that Z Dobson and T Turner were portalling out? Essentially what you have is a container draining out the bottom(portals, graduates, injuries, grades, bad citizens, etc). Then you are constantly trying to keep it full(recruits, Jucos, transfers in, schollies to walk ons, added eligibility). Very hard to get a good snap shot of overall numbers. Better to look at depth chart and ask what is leaving and how good is what I have coming back.

As of now, we look pretty good everywhere except depth at Safety and Fields will be very tough to replace. Plenty of options always to consider and a lot of time to ponder and take more snap shots.

Wow, it would be surprising, if all of these guys leave after this season. Darius Stills and Fields will likely leave for the NFL Draft, and Kendall will likely transfer for playing time, but some of the others, including the linemen, are likely to stay.

If they don't go and with the 16 signed, etc. We should still get to 85 then which means Neal Brown would have a full roster for the first time and most of the players would know the system.
