Does UofL need another JC safety?

Last year Louisville lost both of their starting safeties, Petrino came on board at the very end of December very beginning of January and they went out and got Sample in that amount of time.

Once again Louisville has lost both of their starting safeties and Louisville became aware both were going pro at the very end of December, beginning of January.

So does Louisville need to go out and find a high end JC safety that can come in and play right away? If not that would mean that the coaches feel that they already have enough talent and experience to handle the position with only the talent already in the program. I believe Clemons is expected to be one safety. That leaves the other still unclaimed as well as one other corner spot (spot opposite of Wiggins). Plus Louisville needs proficient players to back up each of these positions.

Louisville has brought in 5-6 JC's so far, all at other positions (OL, WR, RB, DL), does Louisville need to do the same at S now that Sample has left or does Louisville have enough talent and experience already in the program?

Is that your condescending, know it all way of dismissing the topic by implying that since the coaches know all of the intimate ins and outs details of the team and have intimate knowledge of every roster position and have an idea of what they'll need to do and the fans don't that we shouldn't discuss it at all and talk about scenarios and possibilities at all amongst ourselves? Since whatever the coaches will do is inevitable and we'll find out when it happens in the meantime we should all sit here quietly and say nothing about anything and just wait and find out what happens when it happens? The coaches know how many of each position they want and we should just sit here quietly and not have conversations among ourselves. Is that what your agenda is? It sounds like it. Maybe you should just leave the message boards and go away and just listen to the coaches press conferences and sit quietly until the roster/signing class is announced for 2015 and let anyone who is curious about what they'll do and want to talk about it talk about it without dismissing all topics with your "coaches got it covered" shtick. You don't sound as if you should bother visiting message boards if that is the way you see things.

Does Louisville need more OL in this class or do they have enough? How many do they want to sign?

Oh, I'm sorry, we aren't coaches, they know how many they want to sign, we don't how dare we talk about it to each other and discuss each other's predictions/views.

We can pretty much sum up every topic under the sun and just say the coaches have it covered, they know what they are doing and just disable the Louisville message boards. It is no longer needed. The coaches don't read it nor need our "advice" so there is no purpose for it to exist at all.

Maybe I misread you. If not than you come off as a very up tight, condescending, dismissive person. You offered nothing except your sarcastic slant that the topic shouldn't even exist or be talked about amongst fans. Louisville loses all four DB positions, what will the coaches do for next year..............Shut up dumb fans, the coaches know what they'll do, you all just sit there and wait for it to happen, we don't need you to talk about the possibilities to each other for mere entertainment and interest you aren't a coach so just go to work, go home and shut up.

Clemons and Wiggins will start and then there's Jermaine Reve and Tru Washington. Richard Benjamin was a big time 4 star recruit two years ago.

Wow ... some over-reaction Batman!

To answer your question, no I don't think we need to go get a JUCO safety ... BUT ... if you can get one the quality of James Sample, then hell yes, you get him.

There are a couple of differences between this year and last --- Last year, we had a brand new defensive scheme being put in. Sample played this scheme in JUCO. So he was brought in because of his ability, our need, and his knowledge of the scheme. This year, we aren't putting in a new system. It will be easier for the players on the roster to step up and take their place after being in it for the past 12 months.

But we will see.

Don't forget about Michael Johnson. Alot of people were expecting him to play a little Safety last year. I think he ended up redshirting. He's a 6'1" hard hitting playmaker.

Also, Chucky Williams is back there, so between Jermaine Reve, Richard Benjamin, Josh Harvey-Clemons, and Chucky, we should have the makings of a good two deep depth chart at the safety spot.

So the answer to the OP is that we probably don't need to add another JC at the safety position this year. I do agree with the point about if there is another safety as good as James Sample out there, Coach Petrino will find a spot for him. And also, I think that's what funnycide meant.

With the news regarding Terrance Ross hitting the airwaves today ... I think my answer changes to "yes" ... although we don't really have immediate playing time to offer like we did last year.
