Yellow Labs. Here's our Goldie just before she passed away. They are very good with children and extremely mild-mannered. She was a rescue and with us 10 years -- 2003-2013. RIP.

We have two kids..5 year old and 9 year old. Looking at getting a dog for the family. Need one that does not shed. Entire family has allergies so also one that is good for allergies. We live in Lexington. Guessing most don’t recommend getting from a pet store? Rescue groups? Which rescue groups? Thanks in advance!
Havanese. Don't shed, loves everyone

@LowerLevelSeatA don't buy one from a breeder. rescue one. My girlfriend and I are very involved in rescue all throughout the state(I'm in Louisville but know Lexington well) and I'd be happy to help a fellow cat fan in any way possible. as someone already mentioned it's not the hair that you're allergic to it's the dander and contrary to what people who make their money breeding dogs want you to believe there is really no breed that truly won't bother you. it will be specific to the actual dog you bring into your home. We see it all the time with people buying designer dogs and they end up in a shelter or rescue because they thought they'd be un-bothered but still have the allergic reaction. The other thing with the Doodles or other designer breeds is essentially you just want the poodle part. they are the smart, dander friendly, minimal shedding, etc.... not whatever people are crossing them with.

I'd say start with going to some local shelters, get on petfinder and search the area and go see the dogs. It's so rewarding to save a dog and they know and bond with you in a way that's very special. I'd also recommend an older dog. I understand wanting a puppy and don't blame you if that's what your family want but getting one that's a year or older is much easier and they need the saving. Anyway here's a few that I've found on just a quick peruse that should fit the needs you're seeking that you can check out and if you need or would like any more help tag me on here and I'll email you. Good luck dogs are the best

Just had a litter of standard poodles sunday

Momma is actually from kentucky.

Checks all your boxes.. they are a bit pricey.

We do doodles also.. but they can shed as much as any other dog, standard poodle is what you want.

If you can find one in a shelter, go that route.

I have 2 beagles.

Pros: Sweet, friendly, docile, great with kids and animals, cute as can be, have no problems exercising or being lazy.

Cons: They can be vocal, shed quite a bit, have a musky smell, they do whatever their noses tell them to, highly motivated by food.

Golden Retrievers have been my dog breed since birth. I have a Golden Pyrenees female that I’m learning.

If you get anything with Pyrenees make sure to get a 800 volt shock collar

Both great breeds. Retriever might be the best living thing that’s ever seen planet earth

If you want an outside dog I would go with a Golden Retriever. If you want an inside dog a Goldendoodle or Schnauzer. We have a Mini Schnauzer and she doesn't bother my wife's allergies. I know a guy who raises Golden Doodles if you are interested send me a PM and I will give you his contact info. He is cheaper than anyone else you will find for a Goldendoodle.
#1 just bought one this year. She is very smart and well mannered, but she is a dog after all. She got in that deer blood Saturday morning and was a mess, the garden hose cleaned her up. She's the only Goldendoodle I have ever been around. Very sweet dog.
