I was born and raised in Kentucky. Have family in Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee. Lived in Georgia for 3 years. Vacation in Florida frequently.
The overwhelming majority of people I met were not racist and want everyone to have equality. If I met anyone that did hold those beliefs they weren’t open with them.
id argue that you’ve never taken the chance to get know people from the south. You probably hear a southern draw and think “RACIST!” That’s not how it works.
If anything, the only thing I heard against equality was people against gay marriage. And that’s because it’s their religious belief. But none of them thought the government had any right to interfere with marriage, one way or the other.

But your beloved basketball coach doesn’t. In fact he supports and encourages all that stuff. He’s lost a lot of respect from me because of it . It doesn’t bother you? And you say 1 year . I’ve lived in Texas, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Kentucky and Georgia. Most of my adult life in Kentucky (Lexington/Versailles), and the last seven years in South Georgia. I’ve always thought equality was something which was gradually improving in this country — until I moved down here. It’s been a real eye opener, to say the least. The most obvious example is the workforce. In a state that’s pretty evenly split racially, it’s the complete opposite in any business or company you can name. Probably 95% of the upper level, management and/or salary positions are held by white people, while an overwhelming majority of lower level jobs are held by blacks. It’s closer to 100% in the two professions my wife and I are in. This is the kind of racism people want to pretend isn’t really racism, when in fact it’s racism of the worst kind. Things may be improving in some parts of the country, but that is far from the case down here.
I mean , is it wrong that I feel it would be none of my business if these guys kneeled or peacefully protested as long as they weren’t doing it while wearing uniforms representing the University of Kentucky?
But you said they're on both sides but only reside on the right and that's a fact. That can't be possible.
They can do what they want to on their own time, misguided as it might be. But not before a game. Can you protest when you get to work? I highly doubt it.

As for the kneeling, im not a fan, but Cal's screwed either way. If he doesn't kneel, after all the players asked him to, he's labeled as a racist and it'll come out in the media that his team kneeled, but he refused. He'd lose his players trust, the parents trust, and lose all the recruits. You have to remember, the kids he recruits aren't educated.....in their eyes youre either with them, by kneeling, or against them by standing. If you remember, he said multiple times "they wanted me to kneel with them"...almost a hint he wasn't planning on it. Bottom line, the kids put him in that position, you're going to piss someone off regardless. I dont like it, but i truly think its the least of the 2 evils.

You’re going to have to prove to me that those statistics are real. And you’re going to have to prove to me that the people are not in positions they deserve to be in.
To be upper level management of any major company a college degree is all but required. And black people drop out or fail college at a disproportionate rate to their peers (Not just white, but Asian and other demographics as well).
This country, imo, does suffer from inequality. But it’s not inequality of race. It’s inequality of economics. I’m not a socialist so I’m not in favor of higher taxes to redistribute wealth. But I am in favor of trying to build up rural communities (of every demographic, not just blacks). Imo the race stuff is being thrown in our faces to divide us while politicians, media, big tech, and the corporate elites grab more control and influence. The real issue in this country is not race, but where we come from.
While it is true that poor blacks have a harder time getting through life than richer whites. I would argue poor whites, Hispanics, Asians, etc. have a harder time getting through life than richer black families. You really think the coal miners in Eastern Kentucky are benefitting from their “white privilege?” You’re crazy if you do. Maybe go to Eastern Kentucky and see what it’s like for all the rich white folk out there.
Another thing: companies only care about one color- green. If a black guy or gal can come in and make more money than a white guy or gal that company will hire them 10/10. If they don’t? Capitalism will eat them alive.
I could go more in detail on these points but I don’t want to hijack the thread anymore than we have. Rest assured that the south isn’t the evil, backward place you believe it to be. It hasn’t been for a long time. And the last time it was really evil and backward it was run by democrats. Food for thought.
