So, .000001% made it to the MLB. Fascinating.
That kid also played basketball, football and ran track. That kid was also throwing curve balls in teener ball. I would have advised against it but hey the kid was doing other sports so it should have been okay right?

I haven't coached kids in over 15 years and then it was purely volunteer. All of my kids did multiple sports of some kind whether it was basketball, golf, hockey, dance etc. Just get off your high horse. I would much rather have a kid practicing 3s all summer than hanging out at the river with a bunch of duds.

A big part of this falls on the youth coaches who think their season is the only season. 10, 11, 12 year olds are playing baseball multiple nights a week, all the while trying to compete in wrestling or basketball. The same goes for almost all sports. There are far more academic scholarships available. Most parents would be better off putting the money to ACT prep and getting half or full tuition the academic route. Crazy world now compared to those who grew up in the 70s and 80s.

There isn't really a way to improve intelligence like there is a way to improve athletic performance
Right, so the premier knee surgeon in the US is wrong, and you, a delusional cub fan, is correct. Sure thing, pal.

"I have seen my patient population and surgical cases get increasingly younger. Children, parents and coaches need to realize that kids need to take a break from playing one sport year round. Sports should be fun for children. Overuse injuries in children is a concerning trend."

Sport specialization and rest are two separate issues. If you dont want to argue in good faith, then go away.

I don't have a dog in this fight but it strikes me we regulate when and how long kids can work and often times require a permit or sign-off from the school but if it's in the name of "sports" no problem.

Because currently being a coach is a requirement to know "sh##" about the subject? lol. I'm not sure what set you off. I'm guessing you have a kid who was passed over for a select team. That or maybe you're a baseball coach who lost a pitcher to an AAU basketball team. Just get over it. Williams's injury more than likely had nothing to do with a repetitive weakening of his ACL. The fact that he's bigger stronger and faster than the average athlete has more to do with it than anything else.

Yeah, it does, the landscape has changed and your old *** still thinks it's 1999. Nothing personal on my end, just don't like dirty coaches & organizations taking good people's money and gambling with kids' health.

You make it sound like parents are held at gun point. They usually get what they signed up for, don't let them off the hook completely. There are some kids that would benefit more by being in the weight room and focusing on individual skill work rather than playing games every Fri-Sun.

Exactly right. Sport specialization SHOULD (key word there) allow for more training, not for several more months of competition.
