I've seen a lot of shallow takes on it interpreting it as just a parody of Trump/Republicans/MAGA, and the president clearly was in a lot of ways. But that ignores that Leo's character became just as much a cult figure for the other side who got caught up in the celebrity and had half of society just sharing memes about the AILF without DOING anything to try to address the problem, it ignores the self-serving celebrity "activism," the absolute skewering of the media, the corporate donors having more decision making power than the president or generals, the level of control that social media algorithms have on our culture, and overall the short sighted pettiness most people in the movie displayed. It was great. Really enjoyed it. They skewer everyone. Left. Right. Center.
Yeah the hits on the right were super on the nose. The entire rest of the movie is an indictment of the left. But way more subtly done. I thought it was great.I've seen a lot of shallow takes on it interpreting it as just a parody of Trump/Republicans/MAGA, and the president clearly was in a lot of ways.
