FINAL: North Carolina wins 74-69

UNC outlasts Duke with 12 fourth-quarter free throws and gritty defense down the stretch to tally its fifth consecutive win over the Blue Devils in Carmichael Arena. Elina Aarnisalo leads all scorers with 22 points and Nyla Harris supplies 19 — 10 in the fourth quarter alone.

I don't understand why Coach doesn't put anyone on the blocks during free throws. Why surrender a miss like that? Especially when we seem to miss so many. I'm sure she has her reasons, but I don't get it.
If you foul in the scrum for the rebound (which the refs were happy to call today), you give the other team the chance to score with minimal time running off the clock

Just the shear # of boneheaded plays we make drives me crazy. I just can't understand our propensity to continuously try to drive the ball thru 2 and 3 defenders only to turn it over and turn down open shots for turnover or worst shots. Aarnisalo is great example of a player that turns down open shots ALL the time for turnovers and worst shots and I'm not taking anything aways from the good things she does because I want her to shoot more than she does. As far as driving between multiple defenders a great example of that would be ALL of our guards.
This aged well.

It still applies because it happens in EVERY game, We won todays game but that doesn't change the fact these things happen far too often. Even in this game after this was posted EA turned down a shot when she was completed unguarded and threw a pass in the post to CT, There was reaching foul called on the play but it doesn't take away the fact that she was completely unguard and didn't take the shot even though she had the hot hand and was killing it. I also stated I wish she would shoot more and that's exactly what she started doing. As for the dribble drive fiasco of trying to split multiple defenders, I'm glad as hell I didn't see that again in the 2nd half and hope not to see it too many more times in the future.

I'll probably be hoarse tomorrow from all of the yelling I did at the refs today.

Oh, and for the record, the four seats next to us were empty again. I would love to know who has them.
I may not have my voice for a while. I think I actually scared the heck out of a couple of small kids in front of me with my booing but that Charlie the Charge guy ref was just awful.

disagree because you don't see elite teams doing that. You become elite by being consistent and fundamentally sound. That doesn't mean you don't make boneheaded plays or mistakes in general but it does mean you limit that crap which leads to more opportunities to score. Would rather take a bad shot with the opportunity to score

FanaticHeel, EA is only human. No one's perfect. Heck, everyone on both teams made some mistakes throughout the game. I just listen to CB's post game comments and she stated that she has been on EA about shooting the ball more and that she told her when she came to UNC that she was going to be on her in order to make her a better basketball player. EA stated that she wanted a coach to do that and that was one of the reasons why she came to UNC. Did we not win the game? That should matter. Are we not number 3 going into the ACCT? Do we not get a double-bye? What is the problem? I do not understand why you are so hell bent on going after EA. EA is only a sophomore. Heck, she is from Finland and not the US. Do you realize how the adjustments this young lady has to make to ever be in the US and playing women's basketball, away from her family and friends, learning to speak another language, adjusting to living in the US by your self. Do you even have a clue how hard that is for her? I do not think so. Heck, I like to see you go to Finland and make all the adjustments? Then you can come back to the US and tell us how hard that is. Stop freaking out, bro. That won the freaking game. Our team, staff, players, and fans have enough to deal with; especially when you hear the commentators talking more about Duke and TF the whole freaking game in our own gym. Then you hear Kelsey Riggs and company talking about Duke and TF on the ESPN channel. What we need from you is to complain to those people on how much little respect our team is getting or lack of.

The charge/block rule is VERY easy to call now after the off season rule change. Amazes me that refs still get it wrong, not a difficult call anymore.
Pretty sure there have been no rule changes in the women’s game regarding charge/block in the last two years. Not since they defined the cylinder rule for charges too deep in the lane?

You are apparently correct, the change was limited to the men's game apparently. Needs to be both men's and women's, it's a good rule change.

Honestly I don't even know what the bejibbers you are talking about. Hell bent on going after EA? Did you even read my post of just commented with worthless claims. I used EA as an example of turning down open shots and passing the ball that leads to turnovers and said I thought she should be taking those shots (shoot more). Obviously if I thought negative of her I wouldn't suggest she shoot more. So I'll just leave it at that and leave you to your own conclusions. Evidently me and CB both think she is over passing (based on what you posted) when she should be taking open shots.

Playing soft, needs to bump the defender to create space to get her shot off
She just has to get stronger, both upper body and her core. She’s sat out 2 years between HS and UNC, no excuse for not being in the weight room.
I feel pretty confident we do not have stupid money for portal moves. Given that, CB had had a ton of quality hits in the portal Gakdeng, Donarski, Nivar, Harris & Aarnisalo have been key players. I suspect Townsend was probably pretty significant value for the price too.
Tanner can give up a few hundred thousand from the men’s side to get some athletes for this roster!

Our best athlete's on this roster are Nivar and Henderson. Next year it might be Henderson and Bofia
or maybe someone else.

Some think the dookies are so athletic. I guess plain basketball skill won out today.

I will take what we have and take my chances.
