The power of make up though... I will admit she does look better now than say 5 or 10 years ago. She seems like a good person but I can't forget about how she cried after the way Gregg Popovich gave her an interview. Said later she was not going to let him get away with that anymore. Grow some thicker skin if you're going to be in that business.

Uh, Popovich is nothing but a total rectum hole. Somebody should have beaten the feces out of him years ago.

Not denying he's an ******* but that's a given already. People know this ahead of time. She said she was on the verge of tears after this. Doris is nothing special. He treats everyone the same. If you can't handle the heat, you need to get out. Athletes/Coaches all across the board are going to get aggravated with the media so if you can't take it like the rest of reporters, grow thicker skin or get out. Every other reporter embrace Popovich & Belichick for what they are. It's part of the job, like it or not.

Cool. I am not big on most announcing teams because think the hires are biased (CBB with their Duke obsession) or lazy and go off name assumption--for instance the recent elevation of Jason Witten or the failed attempt of Shane Battier that was given, not earned. Burke actually is in with a group she's familiar with seeing she was at Providence as a player and Van Gundy was there as an Assistant with Pitino. Van Gundy coaching with Knicks and Mark Jackson being a former player, so the entire telecast is basically a group that is comfortable with each other. My experiences watching a game are wanting simple requests from the crew:

1. Do you have knowledge of both teams playing?
2. Does the crew have ability to let game be the show and not talk at all times
3. Do the commentators add anything (see Grant Hill as poster boy for being given a job and adding nothing to any telecast other then being a nice guy).

I like Van Gundy for his sense of humor and fact he doesn't always cater to the superstar players but also defends them/their role when they get bashed. He gets what it takes and their roles, but doesn't make them mythical. Jackson isn't my favorite but if he's going to work, like it with Van Gundy. Burke is good, and she's climbing the ladder and earning her promotions, unlike some in the industry (again, Grant Hill is the worst announcer I've seen on a #1 team of announcers and Raftery is getting rewarded for his time served but his elevation is 15 to 20 years late when he was in prime, now he's mailing it in with cliches and kissing Hill's butt all the time).

Have you noticed how awful Marv Albert's been this season? It's time to retire. Names wrong, doesn't know what's going on within the game, and it's just time. He was a great NBA PBP guy but it's past time, and I like Brian Anderson, Spiro Dedes, and several others more. As an Analyst, I agree that NBA is need of some new blood but not forced--Nate Robinson is built for studio work, not games, I always have enjoyed Greg Anthony's take. Biggest problem with NBA right now is their best analysts are coaching (Kerr and Doc Rivers).

Cross over analysts, I am highest on Kara Lawson because she's done her homework, doesn't preach or get off topic, and think she's a professional. Burke's analysis is solid but can't stand her or Beth Mowin's voices and that's my personal opinion, just as I can't stand Reggie Miller's voice or all things Grant Hill. By the way, have I mentioned how awful Grant Hill is? lol

Once again Marv Albert did Marv Albert things. After a foul on Durant he said ”out of bounds m, it’ll be Houston ball”. It was clearly a foul. Nobody else on earth was confused. A few seconds later he says “and now they call a foul”. Uhhhhh, no Marv, they already CALLED a foul.

Just 2-3 more games and Marv is going to be facing a "maybe it's time to call it quits" decision. He's lost. A player shoots a 15 footer and he'll say it's a 3pt make. Just bad.

Trying to de-code whatever nonsense Webber was talking at the end of running off the floor and allowing the team to have the ball no matter what....so he advocated leaving the floor with .5 left and allowing Golden State to just have the ball? He was making no sense per usual and then Reggie whined in with some other stuff..the game should've been over but it extended and Marv was letting those 2 talk because he thought it was Halftime.

:joy::joy::joy:
I know exactly what you are talking about and had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what their point was. Just run off the floor?!?! What? One of the dumbest thoughts I’ve ever heard in all of sports. Of course it came from Webber who also called a timeout with none left and this is why he will never live that down. Unbelievable.

I still like Marv though.

This is exactly what he does. He honestly slips it past you so fast you almost believe him, but if you are paying the least bit of attention, you’ll realize he is absolutely crazy. “Now they say it’s a 2” is a terrible coverup for “I am out of my ever loving mind and have no idea what’s happening”. Then he says he had a foot on the line. No Marv, neither is true. He had NO feet anywhere near the 3 point line. He had several very similar calls last night. I don’t see this guy making it another year on this stage.

You know your motive was just to showoff, act cute while looking like a smart *** with that question.
Really? I figured questions like that were used to elicit a YES or NO response. Have the rules changed on that?

You seem to know the nuances of reporting, and it piqued my curiosity.

You can keep up that charade but you're not fooling anyone. If you haven't noticed by now that reporters of all aspects of news will encounter rudeness from people and need tough skin to last, I can't help you there.

Have you never watched TV before? It's kind of obvious growing some thick skin will help you in the industry and you need to expect after losses or such in a competitive environment guys are on edge.
Oh. I mean from TV some things are hard to judge. I figured you would provide us some behind-the-scenes stories of what helps a reporter develop the thick skin.

I do have experience in another field I had to develop thick skin on the fly otherwise I'd never had made it in my career. Best advice I have for that is just to take the message being received and put aside slurs, insults, talking down, etc as it was never personal but a thin-skinned person would have difficulty handling.

Air Force - Security Forces & Tactical Air Control Party. SF eat their own and TACP is not for boys let me tell you. Get 8 1/2 weeks to start in BMT where the hell begins. Except now days where it's so watered down after the Sex Scandals. Can't even yell or cuss recruits.
