My freshman roomie, who was a political dweeb, got there before me and hung some pics of politicians, including an autographed Arlen spector. I brought rock band posters.

Does the current generation hang posters in their dorms? I recall Farah Fawcet and Rachel Welch being very popular in my day.

Any explanation for the Barbie pink telephone atop the albums?

Pledgemaster is responsible for curating important props for character-building events … pink Barbie phone was used to educate pledges on house phone answering protocol / etiquette

Does anyone know what Beam is used for these days?

When I was there (late 80s/early 90s) it had been converted into offices and classrooms for the Smeal College. I worked part time in the computer labs in Beam and the main Smeal building for several years.

My two most vivid memories of moving into my freshman dorm room are:

- My 6-year-old sister stumbling while carrying a box of my cassette tapes and dumping about 30 of them on the dorm lawn, stressing me out (my dad was big on “everybody helps out, even the littlest kid in the family”)
- Making sure I picked up a poster of “the twins” posing on the Nittany Lion shrine to put up
