To some of the younger fans it is hard to understand the almost visceral reaction this game has for us old fans. So many great memories of IU games past. They were THE rival long before the UL games were played. The fans HATED each other. Hall and Knight almost had a brawl in pregame warm ups once. Mike Phillips almost plugged Knight during a game!
We ruined their undefeated season. It was the game EVERY UK fsn watched no matter what they were doing that day. I remember so many times listening to Cawoods call as kid with my father. The last time I saw him alive was when he came over to my house to watch the UK Indiana game in 1999. We won and he had a sudden heart attack a day later.I am so glad the rivalry has been renewed. Awesome, awesome win!!!

I remember well in the late 1950's listening to a UK game while in bed with a transistor radio up to my ear. The static was terrible but I loved every minute of it. Cawood's call of "Got it" when a Ky player made a basket was music to my ears. I was stationed in El Paso, Texas when Ky. got beat by Texas Western in 1966. Boy did I catch it then!!! I don't get near as excited as I used to with a Ky. loss. I have learned to accept things more graciously. I guess that just comes with age. I'm sure I watched the same UK Indiana game in 1999. You and your Dad watching that game was ever so special. I can assure you of this. You will see him again one day and my how glorious it's going to be. God bless!
