My opinion on whether he should play all depends on to what degree he is recovered by the time the conference slate rolls around. What makes DPE special is his vision and agility. If he's not able to do the "quick twitch" things that make him a unique weapon, it's in his best interest and the team's for him to preserve that year of eligibility, frustrating though that will be.
If he's leaving dude's jocks scattered across the field in camp, then by all means, put him out there.
