He's an upgrade at rb coach. He's a journeyman in the coaching profession but has been at some big programs. Also head coach for a few years at Tenple. He also coached Ezekiel Elliott at OH State.
He's coached some very successful backs. Hopefully can help develop what we have on the roster and bring in some talent too. What I posted in my thread: Had good rushing attacks at Texas, with around 200 ypg his last few years there. PSU was decent with 170 ypg this season. Had top 10 nationally rushing ypg from 2012-2014 at OSU (but, everyone is good at OSU).
Looks like a very solid hire at the position. He's a proven coach at the position. He's jumped around A LOT for some reason Mississippi State, UF, UT, Syracuse, UF again, OSU, Texas, PSU, but he's had at least decent and quite a few very good rushing attacks everywhere he's been.
Frankly, I'm quite surprised we could get him. Aside from his failed stint as a head coach at Temple, 2 years in the NFL and a year at Syracuse, he's been at blue bloods since 2005.He's coached some very successful backs.
Ask and ye shall receive: https://247sports.com/college/south...ocks-football-offensive-line-coach-265806916/Now if we could land a āgoodā OLine coach
Aren't the TCU fans complaining about their crappy OL?Ask and ye shall receive: https://247sports.com/college/south...ocks-football-offensive-line-coach-265806916/
No idea if he's good or not. But he's been a P4 OL coach, which is a major step up from Teasley.
Aren't the TCU fans complaining about their crappy OL?![]()
But a better OL coach than Shawn Elliott? At this point, it still has to be better than Teasely.
Elliott was sort of on the cutting edge of zone blocking concepts in college when he came to us from App State. He's not on the cutting edge of anything now.But a better OL coach than Shawn Elliott?![]()
Teasely to Nebraska lol.Yes. And lack of running game in the redzone.
At this point, it still has to be better than Teasely.
There is no comparison between Drayton's and Shula's resumes. Drayton has been a mainstay at blue blood programs for two decades, producing successful run games at every stop.Itās kind of put up or shut up with coaches for me now. Shula was also a journeyman, having been HC @ Alabama and OC for the Panthers and Cam Newton but that didnāt pan out.
Teasely to Nebraska lol.
What???? Elliot as much as I love him was not on the cutting edge of zone blocking. Teams have been zone blocking since the 90ās. There are only three ways to block the run game, veer, zone, gap. Thatās it.Elliott was sort of on the cutting edge of zone blocking concepts in college when he came to us from App State. He's not on the cutting edge of anything now.
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I saw the early posts that we were hiring TCU's OL coach and then saw Clements and assumed they were one and the same.It looks like Clements was an assistant OL coach at TCU - guess he wasn`t the main one responsible.
And NFL teams are running zone schemes regularly. You can spot a zone run a mile a way by watching what the OL does. What???? Elliot as much as I love him was not on the cutting edge of zone blocking. I agree with your point...but mainSTAY might not be the term. There is no comparison between Drayton's and Shula's resumes. Drayton has been a mainstay at blue blood programs for two decades, producing successful run games at every stop.
You left out our blocking scheme...the lego...let em go...right through to the qbWhat???? Elliot as much as I love him was not on the cutting edge of zone blocking. Teams have been zone blocking since the 90ās. There are only three ways to block the run game, veer, zone, gap. Thatās it.
Well, we hadn't caught up to it here until Elliott pitched himself to Spurrier. "Coach, I can help your team".What???? Elliot as much as I love him was not on the cutting edge of zone blocking. Donāt have to tell me. I coached OL for 10 years. Hung my hat outside and inside zone. And NFL teams are running zone schemes regularly. You can spot a zone run a mile a way by watching what the OL does.
I understand that. But he wasnāt revolutionary. We ran zone runs when Brad Scott was here.Well, we hadn't caught up to it here until Elliott pitched himself to Spurrier. "Coach, I can help your team".
No, I commented on that in another thread. He's never stayed anywhere long, but he's always been picked up by a blue blood program (aside from his brief NFL stint, a year at Syracuse and while the HC at Temple).I agree with your point...but mainSTAY might not be the term.
My fault for not better contextualizing.I understand that. But he wasnāt revolutionary. We ran zone runs when Brad Scott was here.
Teasely to Nebraska lol.
I like Matt Rhule, but he hired Mrs. Satterfield. Now watch them have the best OL in the country next year.
Yep, but if you remember, Shawn was involved with a more evolved zone running game offense @ App St. and it was one reason we hired him, especially with Marcus coming in. IIRC, Marcus ran that stuff in HS.I understand that. But he wasnāt revolutionary. We ran zone runs when Brad Scott was here.

I always felt we merged Shawn's run game playbook with Steve's passing game. Steve finally got on board with the dual threat concept & Mangus was also pushing it. Won us a lot of games.
Why aren't we aren't running zone reads with Sellers. The Ravens run it with Lamar Jackson.
Here's a clip of the Patriots running it in a preseason game from '24.

He probably ruined Cam Newton's game as well.Itās kind of put up or shut up with coaches for me now. Shula was also a journeyman, having been HC @ Alabama and OC for the Panthers and Cam Newton but that didnāt pan out.

It wouldn't have anything to do with him, it's just those huge corn fed linemen out there. I wish we recruited the Midwest more for linemanNow watch them have the best OL in the country next year.
That's how things work for USC.![]()
Btw, I donāt call it cutting edge, because we were doing this when I was at Berkeley HS in 14 and 15We ran a lot of zone read with Sellers. A LOT. And in my humble opinion he missed a ton of pull reads. In his defense, I think Shula coached him to pull it as a last resort, to try to keep him healthy. And that caused our backs to get tackled for loss a good bit.
The thing I loved about what Shawn did was at App they had the ability to read every D lineman. So instead of just your traditional inside zone where they read the End Man On the Line of Scrimmage (EMOLs), they could read the 3 tech, the 1 tech, head up nose. And they would do that on the first drive, every game in order to get a feel for how that guy would play it. That way, later in the game they knew how to manipulate him. Another Elliot special was the pin and pull scheme we saw with Connor and Pharoah cooper a lot. If you have him a 7 technique against a TE, he was running pin and pull. And it was great.
How does Sellers expect to be a QB at the next level if he can't run this play? And in my humble opinion he missed a ton of pull reads.
How much are we paying Nebraska for the recycling fee?Oh no! Nebraska STOLE him from us!
First Satterfield and now Teasely.
