After a little break the DSR has returned

As expected The Beast retains it's unanimous #1 ranking. This may be a record, we'll have to have the official record keeper confirm. They could probably drop a game next week and still be ranked #1 based on the strength of schedule alone.

It appears as though a few voters were not impressed with MS's week as they dropped in a couple ballods yet still remain solidly #2 as the majority of voters are still impressed with their performance against Beast and their overall body of work. While Loyola seems to have had a slight uptick as they pull in at #3 and edge a little bit closer to MS. Perhaps the news of the week is Lake Zurich impressing the voters and tying LA in that #3 spot. The Bears win over highly respected Stevenson clearly turned some Dark Side heads. Perhaps the most interesting section of the DSR is the battle for 5-6-7 as mere .10's of a point separate PR, Marist, and ESL as Marist demands attention with its overwhelming win against an extremely talented and highly regarded Naz.

Special shout out to JCHILL for ranking The Beloved. I predict he predicts an upset in the near future to justify this placement.

1. LWE

Very solid! I might put Barrington over Phillips and I might put Batavia in at 10 and have GBW at 11 but can't really complain about this solid ranking from the Darkside!

Batavia has a huge week 9 game with SCN. A couple weeks ago I told someone (cant remember who) that Batavia would have to win that game for me to consider them. I also dropped Phillips a long time ago. Not sure they'll survive this week's performance. If I were to rank past 10, GBW would be in my 10-15 group along with my Raiders, NC, probably WN, and someone else.

Here is what makes the DSR so frustratingly interesting:

On the one hand, there is 100% agreement on several levels. Obviously, voters all agree that LWE is #1. If you dig a little deeper than that, you will find other teams, or groups of teams, on which voters are all of roughly the same mind. Take Barrington, for example. Not a single voter gave Barrington worse than a 10 vote or better than a 7. Not much of a range there. There is a swing of no more than three votes in any direction within that range. The ONLY other team in the top ten to have a smaller swing is LWE with a unanimous #1 vote. How is it that everyone is so sure about LWE and Barrington, a team that just cracked the top ten for the first time this season?

Voters are also all in agreement that six of the top ten teams belong in the top ten in the sense that none of them gave any of the following six teams worse than a 10 vote: LWE, MS, PR, LA, LZ, and Barrington.

Is all that agreement a good thing? I don't know. I think I could both criticize it and praise it at the same time.

On the other hand, there are some definite outliers and headscratchers out there. For example, Gooms gives Phillips a 2 vote, when four of his fellow voters can't bring themselves to include Phillips in their top ten. Talk about a swing!

Want more headscratchers? JCH, gooms and MCHS gave 9 votes to Bolingbrook, Batavia, and Naperville North, respectively. What is itchy about that is the fact that no other DSR voter gave any of these teams a single vote of 10 or better.

What really gets my fingernails working overtime is godfthr and his 5 vote for NC when no other DSR voter saw fit to give NC a vote of 10 or better. How is it that godfthr is so sure about NC when NOBODY ELSE sees fit to rank them in their top ten? That one has me going under the bathroom sink in search of 15 year old lice shampoo from when my kids were in primary school.
