or should I say "movement" in honor of the one and only.

Losses by GBW, MC and GBN will shake things up. Who will be new to the rankings? Does anyone have a better signature win than Lyons at Duchon over the Hitters? How about OPRF and HC? The West Suburban Silver is tough to sort out. And what about NNFan's Huskies? Should we wait to see how they perform against NV?

So many questions....not the least of which....what's the ETA of Mchsalum's picks? Sorry Mchs, couldn't resist.

With all the craziness that happened this weekend - this is one week where the rankings will be very very difficult to do. I Expect to see a lot of discrepancies between the various polls out there (and discrepancies between the various DSR pollsters for the DSR rankings) with who thinks which teams are worthy to enter and "how high". Juicy stuff!!

Mine stayed exactly the same except i have Lyons in the 9 spot where i had GW.

You are soooo right. There is very little respect for the SWSC from some of the DSR.

LWE has one blemish, in a very close game against H-F, and they are stuck in cement, despite their other convincing wins.

And while H-F gets credit from some voters, there are still some (Dean, gdfthr and Rambler) who believe H-F isn't even top 3 (spewing something about a weak schedule, despite the victory over LWE and the fact that Rice has a much weaker SOS based on actual results from this season).

And it is interesting that nobody says anything about LWW, which has one of the top defenses in the state and won't be a team that anybody wants to face in the 7A playoffs.

Perhaps suggesting that LWE is the equivalent of ESL and BR (and should be ranked higher than 10). Since HF beat LWE, that would further suggest that HF should be ranked ahead of both ESL and BR (and not in 4th behind both, even if only slightly). And none of those scores supports a suggestion that HF's SOS is somehow less than ESL or BR's (which is what godfather, rambler and Gooms have suggested).

What would be a "better signature win"? Would one DSR team beating another DSR team on the road qualify?

Taken out of context. The post was about possible new teams added to the rankings. Of those possible teams (Lyons, HC, OPRF, NN etc.), who has a better signature win than Lyons over GBW at Duchon? That was the question. It was not signature wins of all the DSR teams.

I have H-F third, and ESL second. IMO, ESL's win over Christian Brothers MO is a better win than H-F's win over LWE. Christian Brothers was the #1 ranked team by a wide margin in MO. They are currently 5-1 and have only lost twice in the last three years, which includes this year's loss to ESL.

I would give H-F the number one nod based on beating 3 teams that are now 4-1 but were undefeated prior to playing H-F. I would put LA next in line. I think ESL single win over CBC is better than any win this year in Illinois however H-F and L-A have more than one good to great win. I think there should be a toss up between ESL and Rice for 3/4th based on results to date. I would lean more toward 3rd for ESL based on holding PC to 50 yards or so of total offense.

I did mention a soft schedule for H-F, but I do not recall saying that they should not be top 3.

You keep touting Lockport as a quality win for H-F, and I'm not convinced. You do realize, don't you, that the Porters squeaked by South Elgin (currently 2-3) by two points in Lockport? Beating up on 0-5 Andrew this past weekend tells us little. With games remaining against LWW, LWE, the Brook, and Stagg, I think the Porters will finish no better than 6-3. Is that what you want H-F to hang its hat on?

BTW, H-F has two of its next three games against Sandburg and Thornton, each of which has managed one win so far this year. Don't look for the soft schedule talk to diminish much.

Rambler - your statement that H-F's position in the DSR being the result of reputation suggests that you don't believe that they actually belong in the top three. Perhaps I misinterpreted your meaning.

I would say I "tout" H-F's win over LWE (another DSR top 10), and now I would also "tout" the win over LWW. I still believe H-F's convincing win over Lockport (even if they go 6-3) is a stronger win than Rice's wins over Crete-Monee and Aurora Christian, and Rice's wins over Marist, Montini and Providence don't impress me as much as H-F's wins over LWE and LWW.

So it seems that H-F being in a virtual tie for 2nd in the DSR is based on actual results to date this season and not historic reputation. That's all I was saying.

I will certainly admit that the "meat" of Rice's schedule lies ahead of it (with games against Mt. Carmel and Loyola, as well as Rita). Those outcomes may tell a different story in a comparison of H-F and Rice.

I have no problem with H-F at #3 because I think reputation plays a role in the DSR whether voters want to acknowledge that or not.

All I meant was that, if we were to look at SOS alone, I would have a hard time with H-F because of their opponents in weeks one and two, which are voluntarily scheduled non-con games for the Vikings. Lockport is a weak 4-1 in my opinion. That leaves LWE and LWW as quality wins.

Bottom line: The fact that H-F is practically tied for #2 tells you how highly the panel thinks of H-F. If you want to look at what I said about SOS differently, I think that if the Vikes played a tougher non-con schedule, then an argument could be made for an even better ranking.
