BR people were asking if they were gonna be 0-2. LWE a solid win last night. Palatine big road W week 1. Prairie Ridge will be very high for me beating Cary and Huntley. Agreed. I would add that there are now questions about GBW. A 14-6 win against HS was not impressive. And their week 1 17-7 win over the Brook is not looking great either. How does the Brook need OT to beat 3A BMac, when Mac had some key players out with injury? H-F has done what you would expect in the first two weeks. We will find out more about them and LWE when they play in Week 3.

I believe they can be strong, but this is not what Gw was expecting. So hard to live up to unreal expectations. ..
As a GW fan, I'm not sure where to start commenting on the HS game. But, I thought HS was just outstanding on both sides of the ball. And their coaching staff is equally outstanding. Their kids played their guts out, and should hold their heads up high this week.
As for GW, I'd start with the offense...all of the offense. All aspects of offensive football. Who every devised their game plan should be ashamed of themselves. I've not seen a GW offense so unprepared in the nine years I've been attending games. The tallent is on the field, but it's unorganized and confused. And the number of penalties (holding, off sides, DELAY OF FREAKING GAME BECAUSE THE SIDELINES CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT TO FREAKING DO) was stunning, to put it mildly. It wasn't until the 4th qtr that they just got back to smash mouth football, and if not for a fumble deep in HS territory, might have added one more td.
As for the defense, they played their gut out and deserve all the credit for the win. HS td was after the aforementioned fumble and a long return. But, I'm going to guess that the D played a lot more minutes than the O. At least it felt that way.
So, a little stunned and big time confused by their play. I'll wait to see how they play next week before revising my expectations for this season.

I posted in the other DSR thread, incorrectly. Struggling with how high up to put IC, but they have to be there somewhere.
I haven't picked a top 10 yet but will struggle to put them in as of now. Any other dsr eligible team would have also crushed those opponents and we wouldn't have thought they were great wins. For example, say Benet beat Lawrence last week and then followed that up with the ND victory. We wouldn't be saying wow look at benet.
I lack the anonymity to lay it on as thick as Chuck but from my perspective, GW probably felt like HS on film was a four TD victory no matter what plays GW ran. I didn't think HS offense would score on GW defense and that prediction was true.
So that leaves you some choices to make on offense. Knowing that we have some tough sledding coming up in WSS and some genuine question marks on the O, my impression was OC devised a plan to determine if GW could flip the script and come out slinging the ball. Not a bad idea from a big picture stand point and if you were questioning any starters at key positions, this strategy would provide some answers. I think we now know some of those answers.
The fly in the ointment started with the opening kickoff. A perfectly placed squib onside kick that gave HS ball at GW 40 yd line. After a 3 & out, GW had bad field position. Rather than toss out the script and dig out of a hole that could have quieted the crowd and set the tone for a long night of tough sledding, we threw the ball. Over and over.
It's funny when you raise kids on smash mouth football how much the line loves to come out on opening drives and establish the tone. Ask them to pass block three times and you hand the advantage to the defense if you can't make the connections and move the chains. GW historically has a successful passing game when the play-action comes after the running game causes the CBs and Ss to inch closer to the line. When every team you play stacks the box at the start of every game, trying loosen them up makes sense. Especially if you are trying to determine if you have the right guys on the field.
A big learning experience for us last year was York. They put 11 guys in the box and dared us to throw. Brod the Bod had 27 yards on something like 18 carries. Last year we had a QB that spent the Spring working with his receivers and staying after practice when things weren't clicking during practice. He scorched York and made so many key throws that the field opened up again for Brods all the way through State.
My guess is we were trying to learn if we had that this year.
I agree with everything you said, and stand by everything I said, but will refrain from saying even more about the subject. Bottom line, at least at this point in the season: I have confidence in the players, and in the head coach. Now, on to York and a chance to get better.
