No offense taken, and you are exactly right on everything else. The only "bias" that is involved, is setting the "base" ranking for all wrestlers as the starting point for each week the rankings are calculated.
For example, Jesse Delgado started the year ranked number 1, since he's the returning champ (so his "base"/preseason ranking is 2200, or something like that. Whereas, Kyle Snyder of tOSU started the year as a 1200, which is the default base ranking for all new collegiate wrestlers. That's why Delgado is still ranked fairly high, even though ALL of his wins are against less-than-impressive opponents. if he were to have his base ranking at the default 1200, he'd probably be ranked around 40, since his best win is versus #44 for the year.
