Dudley has battled injuries all season long, but when healthy they are one of the top teams in the state regardless of class. I think New Hanover needs to play a great game to make sure Dudley doesn't pull this one out.
The Panthers are very well coached so I wouldn't count on them beating themselves in this game. I think NH can win though if they play their game, having the game at home helps as well...that's a long bus ride from Greensboro.

A long bus ride indeed. I think New Hanover will have to play an almost perfect game if not perfect to win this one. Dudley is full of studs and will be prepped and ready to go. Maybe NH's coaching staff can find ways to get pressure against the stacked Oline Dudley brings in.

NH doesn't have to play a perfect game to win. What NH has to do is give Walston TIME. He has a tremendous arm and when he gets in rhythm you can turn out the lights. NH has 4 good WR options for Walston so Dudley will not be able to only focus on Wiz, who is NH best WR. I do think Dudley will have success running the ball but they will need to pressure the QB to win.

portcityFB after watching the Hoggard/New Hanover game, and seeing the pressure Hoggard was able to exude on the Wildcat offense. Do you think that Dudley can find success there?

Dudley will 100% get pressure, question is can they get home/force bad throws that can turn into interceptions.
Dudley is typically run first, but they always have a mobile QB it seems who can tuck it run just as well. They are well coached and usually do not beat themselves.

Honestly, I imagine the biggest question mark of the game would be can New Hanover's defensive line stay with Dudley's ground and pound first approach. Dudley has some biggun's along that O-Line and they average right at 250+ per game on the ground. It's going to be very interesting to see how defensive staff at Hanover prepares for this type of offensive force.

I think Dudley tries to shorten the game by running early and often and keeping the ball out of New Hanover's offense's hands. If Dudley can't get it going on the ground I give NHHS the edge in a close low scoring game.

Dudley will run it 40 plus times with 10 different RBs. Dudley will score. NH didn't make the needed adjustments against Hoggard and I just can't imagine they are going to sit back and watch it happen all over again. Sometimes a team is just going to beat you at what you do and I get that, but NH didn't really try anything different against Hoggard. By the 3rd qrt it was obvious that Hoggard had a game plan and it was working. NH did bring in a TE for a few plays to help but for the most part they just stayed the course. NH can score point just running 2 WR if they can give the QB time. I don't think they have to run 4 and 5 guys out every play. Coach Smith is a very good coach and I would think NH is working on protection this week. If they protect Walston I think they win, if not they lose.

In my humble opinion, Hanover's biggest problem could be the lack of competition in the schedule. Cape Fear was good, but Northside Jacksonville and Garner seemed to be great programs with down years. We played some big teams, I mean Topsail looked like the Steelers getting off the bus. However, it wasn't til Hoggard where we played a big athletic team. I'm sure big and athletic would be a fitting description of Dudley. Our defense is fast but undersized. Hoping for a shootout.

You guys are really hyping up Dudley. I think they can win but not if it’s the same team that I seen show up against Hillside and SW Guilford.

I agree. The past few years Dudley has been killing just about everyone. Not this year, props for still winning on what they would call a down year.

ForsythCo & port city FB, something you have to put into perspective about Dudley's 2017 season. They have been devastated with injuries after injuries since Game 1 & 2 against Winston Salem Carver and Ragsdale. Their 3 starting defensive lineman were out (1 with broken arm (still out) 1 with blood clots in his leg (career over. He got his leg step on in that Richmond Co game last year in Rockingham.) And the 3rd one with strep throat and other injuries. He may be back this week. Their starting 6'3 202 RB Z. Rush (Howard Univ.) Hillside game with a concussion. He miss 3 games when he returned in that S.W. game. He dislocated his left arm in the Mt.Tabor game. They have a Safety out for the season Myles Berry 6'2 200 (ECU). Berry and CB Dwayne (D.J.) Cossmen 6'2 193 (Virginia Tech) are lockdown defensive backs. When Dudley played S.W. also their 1st and 2nd string Q.B's were out (Simpson with a ankle and Monroe with a ankle. Plus their 1st and 2nd string Centers were out too. There top W R. Nigel Fitzgerald 6'5 210 (Old Dominion ) was out from a 2 game fight suspension. At The beginning of the season, Dudley was preseason #1 in 3A and 2nd behind Wake Forest in all classifications. I truly believe if those injuries didn't happen Dudley would have been the same old Dudley. Not making excuses, but of all my seasons of watching Panthers Football, this had to be the most bizarre with all the injuries this year.

No Dudley isn't lighting up the scoreboard like the past years. Coach Davis said in the beginning he season he wanted to go back to ground and pound like his 2007, 2008 State 3AA Teams. But they will throw the bomb if available to 6'5 Fitzgerald and 6'4 Wyman streaking down the sidelines. Their Defense is still strong even with the injuries. It is just when the offense turns the ball over on their side of the field, they place the defense in bad spots. But their goal line defense is solid.

I know just how injured Dudley is. That's why I'm saying what I'm saying. A healthy Dudley team makes it to the Championship in my opinion. I'm taking into consideration the injuries plus the low roster count. I've seen them play a few times this year. They have talent out there, but things just haven't went their way this year.

I totally agree. This isn't the same Dudley of the past few years. Whether down because of talent or injuries they are still down. Great job to keep it going and be in the position they are in to make a playoff run.

as all know Guilford County used to be an open type enrollment but that went away this year talking with someone I knew at Eastern Guilford so some of Dudley players had to go back to district they live in, sound familiar, in Mecklenberg County area back a few years ago

Guilford County does not an open enrollment system in place. We do have various magnet school programs district wide that some students opt to attend and yes, we do have some of those students currently enrolled at Dudley but not open enrollment.

This is false. Mecklenburg County never had open enrollment either. Where do you get your facts dude? Forsyth County which is next door has open enrollment, but neither Dudley nor Eastern Guilford are in that county so hard to get them mixed up.
Check your facts before you post.

Dudley isn’t great on offense. They struggle passing. If New Hanover has some success early offensively it could be a long night for the Panthers. They aren’t a catch up team. With that said, they are good defensively.

NH defensive front isn't very big or dominate but NH has 3 good LBs. If Dudley has success running than Walston will be on the sidelines most of the night because Dudley will run it 50 times if they can.

Dudley can go straight at you as well. Doesn’t sound like a good match up for New Hanover

Now people want to call Dudley soft. Nobody have ever said that about Dudley in the last 17 years. Especially the last 5 winning the 4A State Championship in 2013 and 2016, went undefeated in 2013 & 2014 in the Regular season. Going to the Western Regionals in 2015 losing to the Big Red Machine called Charlotte Catholic. I was told New Hanover talked junk, somebody said to one of the Player Mom that was getting back on the bus (3 fan buses came down and the Marching Band), You people wasted all that gas to come down here for nothing. Yes we did and we will go 3 hrs and 20 mins to support them Win or Lose. Dudley moved up half it's J.V. squad to varsity because of so many injuries this year. For them them to finish 10-3 on a down year is still nothing to hang out heads down. We be back strong and focus next year, the majority team will return. Good Luck to Hanover, you have a rematch with Cape Fear.

I'm a moron cause those big boys got pushed around? Go recruit some more Snow Bird.
Yeah I know. We slacked off in recruiting this year....awkward cause doesn't New Hanover have open enrollment?
Anyways, gotta go recruit more white DBs we're running low this year.

If you can't find 4 white boys to recruit to play DB out of the greater Charlotte area, I've got some land to sell you. Oh wait, all the snowbirds already bought up Wrightsville Beach.
