Looks like the rumors were true. Boy did the staff screw up by not moving the basketball players elsewhere. I do give the staff credit, and am very proud, for doing the right thing and not playing. I don’t care what your thoughts are on covid, but you need to understand that you can test negative in the 14 day window and positive a few days later. Look what happened to the moron that is bill self. Covid cases back to back, likely from McCormack and that other guy infecting the other teammate. He put every team they played at risk.

The staff did not screw up by moving the basketball players elsewhere. It worked for the entire year. Those that need to be held responsible are the ones that just had to party. I'm tired of people questioning Coach K and staff. People need to be held responsible for their own actions and tired of hearing kids will be kids. They are college students. They are supposed to be smart but the desire to party was more important and we see the results. OFC

This. I started a thread on the "other board" about Duke's chances. Someone went off on K for making this decision to pull out of the ACC tournament. All of a sudden, the post was deemed getting into inappropriate areas and was locked. Why I have been over here mostly ever since.

Apparently, humanity and the well-being of people not only on Duke, but on other teams, should take a backseat to Duke's ACC tournament. Because we are

sky as much as I love you, you’re dead wrong. You’re forgetting the reason as to why the basketball team is in the hotel as opposed to regular campus dorms in the first place. It’s to limit contact with as many people, namely students , as possible. If the duke staff had this information on hand from the get go, the logical option would’ve been to move the team somewhere else. As I said before, more people= a greater chance of getting covid. Rooming with the football was stupid. You have to adapt to a changing environment. Covids not a if it ain’t broke don’t fix it type of ordeal

I respect your opinion but those who attended that party are accountable. As I stated the policy worked all season until one or several attended a party they had no reason to attend other than they wanted to go . OFC

Was it not widely known that the football team was dealing with Covid within their team? Was the basketball team not sharing the same place as the football team? Or have I heard wrong?
If the staff knew of this beforehand, they screwed the pooch. Hall of Fame coach, or not.

As far as I know that is an unknown fact right now. Yes they were staying at the same hotel but details of when the football tem got it I don't know. One of my pet peeves is speculation. I don't like to speculate about anything becausevmost of the time when I do I'm wrong. We may never know of exactly how it came down. OFC

bro the whole school is on lockdown. Why move them into a hotel if they trusted the basketball team to stay away from everyone else. We don’t even know if a bball player went to parties, could’ve crossed a football guy in a hallway by accident for all we know. Staff should’ve assessed the situation, if they truly knew ahead of time , and moved the guys out of there.

Were they moved to the hotel? I thought they've been there the whole year.

I was more so referring to the decision to move them there, whenever it happened, in the first place. I found this article, had no idea it was written earlier last week. Even though they were staying on different floors on different sides.... the illness hangs in the air. If they ever crossed into an area an infected person was, there’s a risk. Oh well, time to stop beating a dead horse, unfortunately it’s over for us.

If you read the on line Duke Chronicle, the Duke campus has been ultra careful for the past year and as a result was largely COVID free. Then the fraternities moved their rush activities off campus because they are at war with the administration, COVID numbers sky rocketed, and the Duke administration blasted the fraternities for their irresponsible behavior.

Not choosing sides on the frat/admin issue, I have mixed feelings, but the administration has been quick to jump on the frats for causing the outbreak. I have no idea if that is the only cause (didn't know so many football players were rushing or members of frats) but as a result, the cocoon at the WaDuke Inn was contaminated, first with the football team and then with the basketball team.

That is the story from an outsider's point of view. I'm not sure the basketball team could have been moved in anticipation of an unknown contamination.

The covid has only WORSENED on the team:

OFC

of course it was going to get worse I’m not shocked at all . Our guys probably infected some guys from Louisville too. probably even bc. It’s really hard to contain once it pops and itcould take up to 14 days to test positive even with symptoms
