okay some good some bad from this game. who would have thought that an 18 point duke win could be so MEH. ga tech had more yards passing than us 206-176 ok but not great day from harris. they had 40-173 rushes for a 4.3 av while we went 55-197 for a 3.6 average. again okay but kinda MEH. second lowest rushing average they have allowed all season. only usf at 3.1 yards avg was worse. clemson 8.4, citadel 4.5, temple 3.7 and unc at 4.6. talking about our defense i still think we are overplaying our starters. we wear out in the second half of games and the tackling gets sloppy and the dline really doesnt get a rush in the 4th quarter. their rushing in first 6 games clemson 3.5, usf 3.7, citadel 5.5, temple 3.7 , unc 5.2 and with us giving up 4.3 avg that puts squarely in the okay area. how do we give up a punt block in the 4th quarter? all this being said we beat them by 3 scores which is a sound win.
i think some of the offensive woes go to the fact we are starting not only 2 freshman at the tackle spots but also two undersized kids. with monk at 6'3'' and holman at 6'4'' they are both giving up some height and length which sometimes is an issue. both of these kids have a motor and a nasty streak but kinda playing out of position BECAUSE of need. monk should be (and played all thru high school) a guard but is playing tackle because he has to. i always thought holman would end up at a tackle spot but these guys having to play this early just shows that we have either not developed or flat out missed on our OT recruiting for a few years in a row.
ALL THIS BEING SAID WE STILL WON BY 18. half the season gone and we are 4-2 and tied for first in our division. hell yes its duke football
