New season starts tomorrow night, with a game against Furman at 7:00pm EST. Game will be streaming on ESPN3 I believe. Unfortunately, one of our best players, Brad Smith, is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Looks like the foot injury bug has crossed over from the basketball team. Here's looking forward to the new season, and hopefully our guys will be back playing for a title Memorial Day weekend.

Damn that performance last night was pitiful. We got dominated at the face-off X and had no answer all night. Very disappointing display.

Not a good way to follow up on Coach's 400th win. Hope High Point represents the low point.

High Point came ready to play last night. Their goalie was outstanding. Uppgren had a nice game as well, but Smyth did us no favors at the face-off X, which is quite surprising to me given how strong he was down the stretch last season.

Our attack was also dysfunctional outside of Manown. I wonder how much of that has to do with Brad Smith being out and them trying to slowly reintegrate him last night. Either way, we need to get better across the board. Too much sloppy play. Hopefully this current squad follows the trajectory of most of Coach Danowski's teams and gets progressively better throughout the season. Historically, Duke has not come out quickly out of the gate and takes an early season loss or two. But I can't remember the last time we lost to an opponent on par with a High Point.

I’m not huge in the know when it comes to college lax. How big of an upset is this? It seems like it’s a pretty big one.

It's pretty big upset my opinion. High Point has played Maryland and UVA close the past few years, and actually beat UVA before. But Duke should not be losing games like this.

Total team effort.

With the exception of a slight letdown in the 4th quarter, we owned every facet of the game against the Greyhounds.

-The "D" held a team that came in averaging 15+ to just seven goals (limited the nation's leading scorer, Spencer, to just 3 total points).

-Won the ground ball battle 35-19 (including several that kept drives going and eventually led to goals or killed clock)

-A pair of four-goal efforts by Montgomery and Manown...Brad Smith (2G, 3A) will a balanced, team-leading 5pt showing.

-Uppgren has one of the finest games of his career, saving 10 of 17.

After a tough two-game losing streak against Syracuse and UNC, Duke closed out the regular season nicely with wins over Notre Dame, UVA, and Marquette. We've got the ACC tournament on Saturday afternoon against Notre Dame on ESPNU. Make sure to set your DVRs! Really liking how this current squad appears to be getting better each week. Will hopefully be a fun next few weeks leading up to Championship Weekend.

Not only is the present looking good, but the future is quite bright as well, as illustrated by some clutch performances during the past week by a few student-athletes destined for Durham.

Yesterday, in a battle pitting the #4 and #6 ranked teams in the country against one another, it was Dyson Williams (#8 overall prospect in the class of 2019; #4 attackman) scoring six goals, including the game-winner to send Hill Academy to the 12-11 overtime victory over Brunswick.

Also on Wednesday, St. Anthony's teammates, Brennan O'Neill (#1 overall; #1 attack in the class of 2020) and Aidan Danenza (#30 overall; #9 Middle; class of 2020) combining to score seven points in the #5 Friars' 16-7 win over Loyola Academy (unranked nationally; currently 4th in the IL Midwest Regional polls)...O'Neill scored four goals and assisted on one other to finish with a five-point day...Danenza emerged with 1 and 1.

Late last week, when STA faced out against fellow top-25 program, McDonogh (currently #23; was 22 was when the game played on April 20th), O'Neill and Danenza also made their presence felt in a big way, accounting for half of the school's 10 total goals (3 for Danenza, 2 for O'Neill) while each logging a three-point afternoon (O'Neill assist being his other contribution)...St. Anthony's went on to win 10-7.

For those interested, both O'Neill and Danenza will playing on the ESPN networks this week as St. Anthony's will host the 2019 Geico High School Lacrosse Showcase...

On Saturday (ESPN3/WatchESPN), they will face 7-1 Lincoln-Sudbury (Ma.) at 2pm....Sunday, in a game televised on ESPNU, the opponent will be #20 Darien (CT)...St. Anthony's has lost four of their last five meetings (2015 being the lone win) against Darien, so you know the Black & Gold will be fired up for some vengeance.

I don't like our draw. Not keen on having to go through some combination of UVA, Maryland, Hopkins, and Notre Dame to reach the title game.

As much as it pains me as a Chaminade grad and fan, credit must be given to future Blue Devil/#1 overall 2020 prospect, Brennan O'Neill (St. Anthony's).

Yesterday evening, O'Neill put his school on his back, netting seven goals and assisting on one additional strike to propel St. Anthony's to the CHSAA League and AAA State titles by a score of 14-13 over Chaminade....Both storied programs entered the championship contest ranked in the top-6 in America per Inside Lacrosse.

Fellow STA Friar (also bound for Durham), Aidan Danenza contributed a goal and two assists to finish with three total points.

For the year, O'Neill concluded his junior campaign with a stat line that reads as follows: 56 goals/16 assists/72 total points.

Danenza, who recorded two or more points in all but one game this season, ended his 2019 with 22 goals/17 assists/39 points.

Game replay for anyone who might be interested in seeing what the future looks like in Durham:

O'Neill is the real deal.

I'm a St. Mary's of Manhassett grad. Back in 90's Chaminade, St. Anthony's & St. Mary's battled every year. SM's has fallen off big time. I won a few games at the old Chaminade stadium behind school. My father graduated Chaminade in mid-60's.

Huge game against the Irish this Saturday. Would love to see our guys get back to Championship weekend. Going to be a tough matchup, especially given Ryder Garnsey's reinstatement.

Small world...If you hold that "Chaminade family" mentality close to heart, it kind of makes us brethren :)

I must admit, as a CHSAA fan, it has been discouraging the past 15 or so years seeing the league as a whole get weaker....When I first started getting into the sport, a program like Holy Trinity could hold their own...Now HT is forfeited games to us because they feel it would be too much of a mismatch and they don't want their student-athletes getting embarrassed.

In terms of St. Mary's, I remember them having powerhouses in both hockey and basketball (during the Tim Cluess years)...Those beatings they gave us on the hardwood still hurt :)

And yes, O'Neill is most certainly a once-in-a-generation talent...Because he is such a horse as well as a skilled player, I see him being a potential game-changer from the moment he steps on campus in a few years...

Given the talent STA brings back next year, he and Danenza have a realistic possibility of winning national titles at pretty much every level of the sport...I believe both were members of the 91 Crush World Series of Youth Lax title team; The Friars will be in the running to win the HS crown in 2020; and then with good fortune, they will lead the Blue Devils to the natty in the coming years.

My younger brother played for Cluess, those teams pounded everyone. They practiced 3-4 hours each day.

Shame Catholic Lax League fell apart, playoffs were always fun.
