Duke played the second half the way they should have played the first. Happy Cam had a great game and Zion other than the dink played well. I can't say RJ didn't play good just a little off tonight. Tre was his usual good self and Bolden played well. With all that said we better put together 2 good halves to beat UVA. OFC

Awesome post. I feel it's about to get a little worse over the next stretch. I think I'm going to take a mini- vacation when it starts lol.

Not sure how some of you feel but I think k is experimenting with different things. For example, Giving tre and reddish more shots. There’s probably other things like different half court sets but I don’t pay that close of attention

He can afford to experiment with this team against a team like BC. Especially since this team always plays excellent defense.

Sorry. But that was absolutely not a charge. His feet were never set and he slid sideways in front of Barrett. That announcer was pissing me off with his whining about the call.

But the announcer did make one good point that I think should be called more offensive even without the defender completely set: when the offensive person drives with little to no control and lowers his shoulder, it should be an auto charge. I hate how the offensive player can be so out of control but the defender is expected to be perfectly still and not have a hangnail out of place...

Anyway, perfect game example of why I would never bet the spread in a Duke game this season...

Bang-bang call and Hubie is dead on with respect to that charge/block. It all depends on the angle and it really was a charge, imo, b/c he lowered his shoulder and forced the contact. That aside ...

Great to see Reddish have an excellent 2nd half. If he could get some aggressiveness and drive the basket like Barrett, Reddish would be right there and nearly unstoppable with that length.

Great to see Duke come alive with more hustle and aggressiveness in the 2nd half also. They will need 40 minutes of that against UVA.

Bolden is playing harder but he just doesn't have good court awareness at times. Several times he has a guy open and doesn't think to kick it to someone.

He wasn't just, not perfectly still. He slid in front of the offensive player. Who then had to change his motion to protect himself from falling hard. I don't think Barrett was out of control at all. Even though he often is. The right call was made IMO.

I am not speaking about this call specifically, but charge-block in general. RJ was in control, so I lean this being the right call, but RJ did lower his shoulder. It does seem like the offensive player has a lot more freedom to look like crap, lower their shoulders, and be outta control, while the defensive player is expected to be in absolutely perfect legal guarding position...

The unsung hero of this team continues to be our defense. I bet we will hear a bunch about this teams streaky shooting again after tonight but when we are defending at a high level our offense almost always clicks. Awesome to have a team that can beat you in so many ways.

I think we actually covered the spread tonight. When Kville started the game thread we were a 24 point favorite and we won by 25 points. So unless the spread changed then we covered the spread tonight.

I hope you’re right about the selection. It’s pretty tempting not to take wide open jumpers, though....for any player. And right now, defenses treat our shooters like they have the Norovirus and just let them chuck away. It’s the best plan to beat this team....almost hope we keep doing what we did that first half for an entire game.

I think UVA is a great example of what type of shots this team will take when the heat is on.

CAM FAM !
Didn't get to watch it because I had to work so I will have to watch in morning, but glad to see Cam had a good game. A win is a win. Especially a conference win. I don't think we come out slow Saturday. This team will be ready. Great to be a Duke fan!

This was nothing more than a first half slumber. Amazing they can just turn it on and blow teams out by 20+. We shoot a lot of 3’s, we shoot even more when we are feeling lazy. We were also beyond due to make a few which finally happened in the second half. Very happy to see another good performance from Cam.

Buckle up, Saturday is going to be a good one.

This is my 11th season watching Duke basketball, and this is our best 22 game start since I've been a fan. Really special team this year.

Exactly, there will be games we come out of nowhere and cover the spread, and other games where we are easily covering the spread and then dont because of slow down/subs in the last 5 of a blowout...

How are we not talking more about what Tre has now done to Ponds and Bowman in back to back games? Good lord he has been incredible.
I just looked up Tre’s stats for the season and this was only the second time that he didn’t have at least 1 steal in a game and the St John’s game was only the second time that he had more than 2 turnovers in a game. He’s an incredible ball handler and defender.

It was great. But, there has been a clear strategy by our D to attack those lead guards. Ponds was doubled every time he attempted to penetrate. Tonight our guys were concentrating on Bowman. Tre was great, no doubt, but stopping those guys was the main point of the D all night long.

Yeah, I wouldn't want the assignment of guarding him next game!!
Well, I would NEVER want it, but you get the point!!

Tre is a hound on d. One of the best on ball defenders to ever play for K, regardless of class.
It starts with Tre, but the others aren’t too bad either.

Of course that’s the game plan, and there’s were some switches (mainly Tre switching to the hot hand), but go back and watch when he’s on Bowman, and just how difficult everything was for Bowman with Tre on him. And that was without the doubles. Same for Ponds. Watch how Tre navigates screens. Go back and take a look. It’s incredible.

Yea he never gets stuck on screens. It's pretty remarkable, especially for a freshman.

Must some of you complain about the 3 point shooting every game? We know we aren't good at it but we have to shoot it to keep people honest. Majority of the time we shoot it, the shooter is pretty open. We have to shoot about 20 3s a game. That's all we need because we have such an elite defense. So we are just fine. Cam is stepping up now. Also, I think we are mentally and physically wearing team out teams by the second half.

You don’t need 20 3’s to keep a defense honest. And not all of them are pretty open. When you look at some of the lulls our offense goes through it generally includes a lot of missed 3’s. We get 20 potential 3 looks per game because that’s what our opponents want us to shoot. We need to be more disciplined to find a higher percentage shot. I’m not saying we don’t shoot 3’s but if you take 6-7 of those per game (the toughest of looks where we shoot an abysmal percentage) and turn them into 2 point looks, we add another 6-10 points. Doesn’t seem like much but could make a difference in a March game.
