We have to realize 19 and 20 year olds have a hard time getting "up" vs a bottom tier team in the conference. It's just human nature, I think this team has what it takes to advance throughout the tourney!
Wow! Great to get out of there with this one. Guys, I don't know of too many Championship teams that got through the season without a game or two like this. You have to have a little luck along the way, and you will have some bad games.
I know it wasn't pretty, but be thankful for this win, and please don't crucify Okafor or Amile, they are not the only big men that can't shoot FT's. Still a work in progress, and I will take my chances with this group "all day long"!!!

Just happy we came out with a win. Danged if we aren't getting worse as a team shooting free throws. Quinn really came up with some big shots and if Jah had not played we would have been run out of gym. What was that stat with Hudson.. 15 points total in the 4 previous games and he looked like an All-American tonight. Oh well next game. Have a safe triip home guys. OFC
I'm seriously right there with you. We should really already be in bed savoring a double digit win.
love the fight in these guys. they never give up and keep coming at you. that said there defense was terrible tonite. can't stop dribble penetration and the 3 point defense was horrible.
this team really has trouble with the lower echelon teams. if we make it by the first round we may indeed get to the final four.

Too many VT fans in my neck of the woods and no way I'd want to hear their s**t for the next few days. Glad it's snowing here too so I don't have to be to work on time.

I hate all refs and think they are awful. I watch games 30 years ago and it amazes me how much better officiate games are.
It got close in the 30's and Plumlee's second is a Putrid call and VT gets an and-1 when Duke did not even touch the player.
Duke was trying to get some breathing room in the 60's when VT scores 5 points on two possessions where it was not bad enough VT should have been called for a pair of offensive fouls, DUKE was called for a foul.
I call a spade a spade. 1). Inside officiating, until they started calling everything, was inconsistent at best.
2). I guess I am just to used to seeing crappy D2 officials and expect better. I guess I am wrong.
3). Illegal screens are not called anymore. Even call 1 or 2 of the illegal screens, this is a different ballgame. At least they did not call it and then drag it out on Duke at critical moments, which is the soup de jour the past couple of seasons.

Agree on all of this. The moving screen is killing me. Then I don't get how they call touch fouls on a lay in but okafor is getting shoved with two hands and no call.
This team finding a way to win repeatedly in hostile environments or in tough games at home will benefit them come March...that much I am sure of. There were numerous reasons we should have lost - Va Tech made 79 3-pointers (seemed like it anyway), Tyus was off his normal stellar play, our defense was wretched - yet we still mustered up and GOT A STOP at the end of regulation and found a way to win in OT.
I've said it before..this team has some serious fortitude. Just need to relax and hit free throws. As someone that played in college I assure you likely shoot much better in practice, Jah included. I like where we are at right now coming down the stretch.

Part of being a great team is not only getting everyone's best shot, but being able to absorb it. I don't know much about VT's team, but I have a feeling they don't routinely shoot that well from 3. They gave everything they had at their house and we still managed to pull it out. I'm happy about this win against a team that historically plays us very tough.
For some reason I expected a close one last night & did not get too anxious. VT stinks but knew they'd shoot lights out b-c that's what most opposing teams do against us. Really is a disgrace how most ACC teams get so geared up for Duke then play lousy for other opponents.
