We’ve had players leave before that weren’t ready, happens almost every year
I think all freshman outside of JJ will be back. I would be stunned if Hurt returned. Both of these we knew before the season began.

I’d argue many of us thought Moore would be gone after this year- he did as well- but that is all but out the window.

So in addition to the two absolute bonafide studs coming in (not even including if we get Baldwin and/or Keels) we should have experienced:

Roach at the point
DJ at the scoring guard
Wendell at the Swiss Army knife three
Baker as a shooter off the bench
Brakefield as a do it all versatile forward
Williams, Coleman with another year and 5 fouls each down low. (No clue on what Tapé does)

this red raider exactly what timo posted. Recently, Bolden is the only player who left school early who shouldn’t have. All the other guys who have left duke early recently are playing in the nba so it was not bad choices for them.

I was honestly getting ready to give up on the season a week ago when the games kept getting cancelled. What a difference a week makes. We had 2 games which were not cancelled, gained some confidence, and got 2 ACC wins. Moore is contributing again, and JJ could be back very soon. We also won without JJ and Tape, 2 of our rotation guys. Tape was starting to contribute before his injury and seems ahead of Williams right now.

This team is 3-0 in ACC play. Only two other teams can say they haven’t lost a conference game. Kensucky has lost 6, and half the fans hate their players and coach. Mich State has lost 4 already. Kansas got curb stomped by Texas. It’s a different kind of year. It’s not all doom and gloom. We aren’t great, but we have some very good players. Many of them are expected to be back next year, and we have 3 grown men studs coming in if Baldwin commits. And the silent verbal has been given!!
And we also have this man running the show. Who’s knows how much longer? Let’s enjoy!!

Five national championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015)

Six gold medals as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team

Nine National Players of the Year (11 honors)

Six National Defensive Players of the Year (nine honors)

10 consecutive top-10 AP poll finishes (1997-06)

12 National Coach of the Year honors (eight seasons)

12 Final Four appearances (tied for most in NCAA history)

12 ACC regular season championships

15 ACC Tournament championships (most in league history)

28 NBA Lottery picks (most in Draft history)

34 All-America selections (48 honors)

35 NCAA Tournament bids (most by one coach)

64 NBA Draft selections, including 41 first-round picks

65 ACC Tournament wins (most in league history)

97 NCAA Tournament wins (most in NCAA history)

124 weeks ranked No. 1 in the AP poll (most by a coach in poll history)

491 ACC wins (most in league history)

535 weeks ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll (most by a coach in poll history)

621 weeks ranked in the AP poll (most by a coach in poll history)

1,059 victories at Duke (most in NCAA history at one school)

1,132 career wins (most in NCAA history)

College basketball fluctuates more than any sport other than perhaps baseball. A great week for Duke. A fabulous week for kentucky. They add one shooter, Dontaie Allen, and voila' - they're up 12 over Florida in the second half

In basketball one player stepping up can make a team confident about themselves and start winning games

It really was nice to have the two games this week, and of course win both. Moore couldnt seem to get untracked offensively today, and the game just didnt seem to come to him offensively with the ease it did against BC.

Conversely, one of the signs of a good player is finding OTHER WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE when your shots are not falling. Wendell's 8 boards are a positive indicator in that direction. Tape does seem ahead of Williams right now, but I do think Mark has a good upside for us. OFC

Just finished the game. Initial thoughts, the first half was a mixed bag on both ends of the floor. 2nd half of the second half I loved what I saw from this group. Defensively I think this team can really be something at times. The offense runs thru Matt. When Jalen returns this team could end up being much better than people are realizing. Talent is there, raw, but there. Our bigs haven't quite figured it out yet. Which is why we need Tape back. Coleman looked good in his few minutes. Mark isn't really ready yet. Our freshmen guards are starting to put it together. Goldwire is one of the most undervalued players we've had in a while. Moore brought it defensively and on the boards. Joey had some nice moments today overall. Do I think this is a final four team? No. But they will be better than most here expect by year's end.

Loved how we closed the game out yesterday. We wore them out defensively and made shots, sometimes it's that easy. IMO yesterday's game would have been a blowout if Cameron was a packed house, we were making three's, just couldn't go on a big run until the very end. We ALWAYS go on a 12-0 14-0 run in a packed Cameron.

In regards to who stays/who goes. I'm first gonna enjoy this season because I do think this Duke team is gonna get better each week and we got a shot to make a run in March. JJ (lottery pick) and Hurt (old for his grade) seem gone for sure. I think Steward goes too, he's playing himself into a first round selection IMO.
Getting Roach back will be massive, he will be our floor general next year. Goldwire coming back for a 5th year would be awesome too. Crazy to think but were gonna have a Junior Wendell Moore too.

Coach has installed a new offense because the 5 out wasn't working. We have looked better. Tough stretch coming up with road games at VT, Pitt and Louisville. If we could win 2 of 3 we'd be in great shape.

I struggled to watch the Duke- Wake game. I watched a lot of the first half, but switched to the indianapolis vs. buffalo nfl game at 1:00 pm. It wasn't because of Duke, although the gray uniforms weren't good. Carter Whitt for Wake Forest is the most frustrating player in the world. He has no concept of how to play defense. He jogs behind the play as if he were a spectator with a front row pass. I watched him in person in high school and left the game sick to my stomach. He has plenty of offensive ability, but Wake will never win unless his defense improves dramatically

Most players coming out of high school have an issue with defense unless they have a coach that knows the game. Ged there is a senior at Reidsville high that is going to be a special player unfortunately he committed to NC state few months ago. He is averaging 39 points first two games and only missed 4 shots. He was a standout receiver in football but chose basketball. I think your tarheels were looking at him for football. Was hoping he would come to Duke and try playing both.

If Whitt played for us he'd be the most hated player in the history of basketball. :)
It was funny what the announcer said about Whitt and the Wake coach after the Virginia game. Coach ask Whitt how many he would have scored if he was still playing in high school. Whitt response was probably 30 something. He was not use to the Virginia PAC line

King blue devil, very interesting comment about the athlete from Reidsville. The least appreciated member of UNC's national championship team in 2005 was David Noel. He was a tremendous athlete and leader

Duke's Reggie Love played both sports. It's got to be a tough decision when you're a standout at both. This kid has another gear on the football field.

Bolden is currently on the Cavs collecting NBA money...do you mean Duval?

Boogie, I did not know Bolden was on the cavs. I assumed he was in the G League. I had forgotten about Duval, but Duval had no business departing for the nba after his Freshman season. Bolden and Duval imo are the only two who left Duke early recently who should have stayed to improve on their skill sets. The other guys who left early recently have been successful.

He's killing it currently so I'm glad it all worked out for him but Gary Trent JR is the guy I wanted a second year the most. Think about his shooting on the Zion team, we would have been impossible to guard. I think he would have rained three's all season and played himself into a 1st round pick.
Gary Trent JR to me is a massive "what if."

For me it was Frank Jackson. I thought he was going to have a huge sophomore year

Frank and Gary are two good picks. Neither were first round guys and both could have had big impacts on the next year’s teams. Frank was is currently in the G league i think and hasn’t shown much. Gary made his way from the G league and has had some very good showings.

I don’t blame Bolden. Even if he had come back, not sure he was getting drafted. But i would have loved to have him!

Another year for Bolden would not have effected his pro career. I think he hangs around the league a while but never a starter.
