I would much rather play Marshall than a James Madison or any other FCS school. Whether it's football or basketball, the Marshall game bring some energy. It's entertaining regardless, and that's all it's about for us as fans. Who cares if it doesn't get us anything, neither do the games that replace it. The trash talk from their fans and coach is simply their desperation and trying to convince themselves or other people that they are competitive.

He is just trying to steal some headlines from WVU.

Funny thing is if he won some games he would do that already.

I don't hate Marshall as much as other WVU fans but I have absolutely no idea why they thought he was a good hire.

I lived in Phoenix during the D'Antoni years and I'm a diehard Suns fan. I could have told Marshall he had very little to do with Mike D'Antoni's success there.

This will go down as the worst hire ever for Marshall basketball.

Why care what he says?

I will never get this interest from WVU fans in what goes on with and said by Marshall University, be it the coaches, the AD, or any of their fans. Why even care?

Besides its basketball, starts after football LOI day and goes to April.

Carry on though.

The games that replaces it bring a lot more than a game with Marshall. To begin with, there is only a flat payout to the visiting team, not a revenue sharing. Secondly, they are invariably teams that carry more prestige than playing some third rate commuter school that has a habit of hiring people (with your tax money) with big mouths. As Huggs pointed out, if you don't beat Marshall by 110 points even winning is interpreted negatively, and his team is trying to get in the NCAAs every year.

Cancel the Marshall series and, if the team is going to play a game in Charleston make it a JMU or a Virginia Tech, but Charleston needs to have better turnouts to make it worthwhile to make the trip. Maybe when they get their civic center fixed up that will happen?

Honestly, what he said last year was over the line. The new stuff in this article is not a problem with me. In fact, he talked about last year and toned it down a bit. Let's not act like Pitt here. I see no reason to play them in football, but basketball has more games and there is simply no reason to not play them.

Not to be argumentative but you know it hurts our teams RPI just to play them..... right? Win or Lose. They have a horrible RPI that only drags us down, no matter the outcome. Huggs has said so himself.

Yep, it hurts our RPI. I heard Huggs and he is connect. It is also just one team and in baskeball, the objective is to get into the tourney. If we have a respectible team, we always will be in the tourney. It is rare that one team's low RPI will be the difference. D'Antoni is an ***, but he is their *** and they need to deal with a very bad hire. I suspect most Marshall fans already get that, even if they don't say it. Keep playing them in basketball IMO.

So this buffoon is the hard court version of what Luther Pruett was when he was coaching the football team at 'Mops and Props' U more than 10 years ago. "They're afraid to play us if they pull out of the Capital Classic."

No, you big dummy... we just get tired of dealing with the drama that comes out of "Little Detroit".

I agree. This game only benefits them and doesn't help wvu one bit. Their rpi sucks year after year.
