Saw Second Part of Dune this afternoon. Really Good movie and better than First Part IMO because this one is about the actual battle of Arrakis. Felt Austin Butler did a Great job in role of Feyd.

Did you get a sandworm popcorn bucket? XD

I'm looking forward to seeing Part Two next week at Hamburg. Gonna get me a sandworm popcorn bucket if they're not all sold out by then. ;b

I’m going to have to rewatch the first one. I can hardly remember it. All I remember were Oscar Isaac’s, some witches or something, and Zendaya. Seems like there was sand, but it could’ve been Star Wars AOTC.

Sounds like you have Dune mixed up with Shake It Up.

Excellent film. Love the changes they made from the book. Looking forward to seeing it again. Definitely one to see on the big screen with big sound.

In the original Dune, there were these giant brain creatures with little tiny arms. Were they in either of the two modern Dunes?

Saw it in IMAX. Thought it was absolutely fantastic. If I had to nitpick anything it would be Zendayas portrayal of Chani.

The first was a disappointment to me. Her playing the role was part of that. The other part was an utter lack of scale/proportion in terms of background activity in some scenes. Hoping to see this one soon and that it's properly done.

We see their representatives...

...but not them. The director explains why:

“They were Guild representatives. They were not Navigators. We don’t see the Navigators in this first part. That was the one of the challenges of this adaptation – I was trying to keep mystery alive as much as possible. We don’t show the Emperor, we don’t see the Spacing Guild Navigators. There’s a lot of characters that are mentioned or that are in the background that we don’t see right away. I tried to keep all the space traveling as mysterious as possible, like almost bringing some kind of mysticism or sacred relationship with that part of the movie. Everything involving space is just evocated and very mysterious

I probably should have watched the original again and the first remake before seeing the 2nd one. It wasn't bad, but seemed to drag on a bit at times. I saw the first one not knowing there was a second and then watched the second without knowing it's a trilogy. 😂 Man they stretched out 1 movie into a whole lot more. Same thing they did with the Hobbit. Can't really talk about anything else without giving away spoilers.

It going to be a long wait for the 3rd movie. I believe Villeneuve stated it be 4-5 years before the final movie be produced.

The trailer for Dune: Prophecy:

The Bene Gesserit are one of my favorite parts of the entire saga and the trailer looks great, but for whatever reason, I just can't summon an ounce of interest for Prophecy. Maybe I'll have found it by the time it arrives this fall.

I just don’t understand the running and sword fighting when they have nukes, dragon fly helicopters with heavy artillery, flame throwers AND YES - GUNS.

I just ruined it for you, didn’t I?

Holtzman shields function like non-Newtonian fluids:

They can only be penetrated by objects that movie slowly -- hence the lesson that "The slow blade penetrates the shield."

What I want to know is: does the Duke's pug have a stillsuit?

Loved it. Dude is a way better Paul than he ever was as Willy Wonka. That was a casting mistake trying to picture him as a young gene wilder doesn’t work for me. Almost as bad as the Han Solo casting for that movie.

I rewatched part 1 shortly before seeing the new one and I think she’s somewhat better in this one, although it’s still strange casting. It’s overall a great adaptation in my opinion though.

Good to hear she's better.
Has to be for marketing. She's a well known name right now that will put young people in the seats. Maybe there just aren't a lot of good actresses out there, or maybe it's still creepy Hollywood stuff (like weinstein).

I was afraid they were gonna make Zendayas be an insufferable Girl Boss as is the Hollywood obsession. But she wasn't, she's a warrior as are all Fremen females in yhe book written 60 yrs ago. And her Chani is diff than the books in kind of a big way, but I like it.

*spoiler* Ending the movie showing her as seemingly completely in opposition to Paul's decisions sets up an interesting 3rd movie plot. She going to try to fervent a rebellion?

I very much dislike the change to her character. One of Dune's main messages is that charismatic religious leaders (like Paul) are extremely dangerous because they can cause otherwise reasonable people (like Chani) to do crazy things (like wage an intergalactic jihad that causes the deaths of sixty-one billion innocent people). Turning her into a nonbeliever -- someone who can resist -- totally undercuts that message.

Uh, Stilgar? And Gurney Halleck? Hello? They will faithfully carry out the jihad that kills trillions on the world's of the Great Houses over the next 15 yrs. I like that Chani won't be at his side as it happens like she was in his vision from the 1st movie.

She was cast to bring in her loyal audience of tween girls. She was the weakest part by far but im glad she was only ok, because given the reason for casting it could've been much worse. Jmo.
