Duval back at Duke

Impossible! I have it on good authority from THR and RR that he is mad at K and Duke.
I thought he wasn't returning to Duke regardless?

What classifies as hate? Is it criticism? Or are the fans supposed to love every kid that comes to duke?
Hate is a very strong word. Personally, I don’t hate any of these kids. There are some though that I didn’t care a lot for.
I would totally agree w/that assessment. In fact I feel sorry in a way for someone that COULD POSSIBLY "hate" our kids. That reveals an unhealthy type of character.
Its true as you said, we don't care for some as much as others. I see nothing wrong w/that or criticism either. Be a pretty dull board if it were an all-out lovefest, although I think some here would favor such a scenario.

Not the point i was making, i am saying you don’t need to go to other boards to see the same content as you see on our own.
I have visited those other boards. I would beg to differ based on some of the vile and cruel things they've said about our coaches and players. I won't even visit them now unless they lose for the meltdown.....OFC
I looking forward to Greg Paulus' return to Duke again. I can remember when he was a recruit we were all excited about. We as a fan base really valued him at a time until his junior year. Still don't understand why some Duke fans turned on him. He's a Dukie and gave us 4 years when he could have sulked and transferred. He could have played elsewhere his senior year. I hope he is always welcome back at Duke. OFC

I love Greg Paulus. He's taken a lot of heat from some Duke fans, but I never thought he ever lacked grit and hustle. OFC
Well said Sky. I always thought Paulus was a true Blue Devil and gave us his all. I love the guy.
Not exactly sure why a lot of Duke fans went sour on Paulus. I have read somewhere that he negatively effected our recruiting for a period of time. I can't verify that, of course. What I do know is that he played hard and gave us a solid four years. Sure, they weren't what you'd expect from a 5-star recruit, but he played his heart out.
I remember reading those stories - that he was overtly rude to recruits during their visits, excluding them from pick-up games, etc. I have no idea how much validity they have.
I have only 2 problems with Paulus: (1) he thought he was better than he was, and in two games I can specifically recall he took a key shot at the end (and missed or lost the ball) that should have been in someone else's hands; and (2) I felt he would pass only to McRoberts to the exclusion of others on the team which I felt reflected that McRoberts was his guy and others were not. I can't prove anything but those two issues rubbed me the wrong way. Sorry guys for piling on.
I remember being at a pickup game his junior year (going into) and he was being a total dick on the court, especially to the new guys. I get the hazing part but his whole demeanor was way off. Only a sample of 1 but it stood out like a sore thumb.
Have to disagree about expectations.Did not look up his final stats but think he had over 1200 point and roughly 400 assists.His major problem imo was he could not guard the Uncheat point guard,which caused him to be vilified by our fans
I appreciate and respect every Duke player that has ever put on the uniform. I try to follow every single Duke player once they stop playing for Duke, whether that is in the NBA, overseas, or life outside of basketball. Personally, I have always found it strange for the fans that basically say "well once they leave Duke I wish them well but I don't really care what happens to them." Like what???
I know that Duval made fans angry by a few social-media antics, most notably trolling Duke fans when he announced he would be going pro. I'm all for one leaving and getting the cash, and I even understood Duval leaving early even though he clearly wasn't ready, (his family needed to pay the electric bill) however even that rubbed me the wrong way.
Duval is basically the OAD version of Greg Paulus. Big-time recruit that never lived up to expecations. The problem with Paulus was that the 4 years he was here we didn't win anything and UNC absolutely dominated us along with winning a title his SR year. Those 4 years were dark days, we were missing out on all of the big fish too. Did Paulus have something to do with that? If he did, yikes.

He was the #1 point guard, according to Rivals. He never averaged north of 12 ppg in a season, and his assist to turnover ratio was hovering around 1.5 (that wouldn't put him in the top 200 in the NCAA in 2019). His sophomore season was solid, but even still, you'd think he would have more to show over his career than a single 3rd Team All-Conference selection.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but does anyone know what happened to the high school kids p.j. hairston smacked at the YMCA? The last I heard was he got a scholly to a small college somewhere in N.C. Funny how p.j.'s name keeps on popping up when he messes up then all of a sudden you don't hear another thing. I guess cheater u really does take care of that family. I'll be honest. Got kind of tired of the posting of why we dislike certain of our former players so I wanted to divert so I guess it's a hijack. Look as disappointing as Taylor King was I still consider him a Dukie and hope he is succesful. I can't help it. I'm a Duke fan. It's my nature. OFC
To me, there is a difference between criticizing a player because one personally dislikes him, and objectively opining on a player's performance or behavior, be that opinion a negative one. The only way to test an opinion is to express it and evaluate the blow-back. Some players deserve to have their legacies adjusted, up or down. So, I see nothing wrong in using this website to test sincerely held opinions. I do not think negative posting about players comes close to outweighing the abundance of positive posting on this cite, so I can live with the negativity, especially if it is logically and objectively supported.
