Welcome Falcon86!!
OK - I fought through thunderstorms, plane delays, dogs and cats getting along and general work chaos to get back to get my picks submitted for this week!!
NC 2-2 vs. WWS 0-4:
Every game for WWS is a playoff game from here on out. NC playing well, very well coached and they also realize they have to have this game for a reasonable shot at the playoffs. NC still has St. Edwards/NN/WN/LP on their schedule. If NC loses this game and drops to 2-3 they would need to upset either St Ed or NN and run the rest of the table to make the playoffs. Much tougher of a road if they don't take this game from WWS. Sorry WWS - I think you are the first DVC team officially eliminated from the playoffs.
I will take NC (score predictor 34-18)
WV 2-2 vs. MV 1-3
IMHO the top two keys to the game for WV is
1. Limit/Eliminate the turnovers. WV turned the ball over like 10 times the past two weeks. They need to cut that down to 0 or 1 MIGHT be able to get by with two if they can claw back one from MV. Offense needs to finish drives and not turn it over or turn it over on downs inside the 20. .Get some long sustained drives that finish with 7 and give the D lot's of rest between series.
2. Put pressure on the QB. Yes it seems MV QB Thorne is the real deal.. but he is still a Soph,.. WV can't let him sit back in the pocket and pick them apart. WV needs pressure up the middle to move him off his spot. Hell, I'd take pressure from the outside - anything to make him move around. And I'm not talking about coverage sacks and coverage pressure - I mean real pressure within the first 3 to 4 seconds. I hate to say this especially after NC ran over the WV Defense - but make MV beat you with their run game...
This is a playoff game for both teams. WV has to win this for a reasonable shot to make the playoffs without having to pull off an upset. They have WWS, Hamilton SE (a top 10 Indiana big school), NN and WN left. They have to win this or they would need to pull at least one upset either down in Indiana or on NN and run the table on the rest. MV needs this one as well - they have LP/WWS/GBN/LWC... but they don't need it as bad as WV
. I will take WV in this one for this weeks picks.
GBN 3-1 vs. NN 4-0:
Battle of two top DVC teams. NN will try and spread them out and GBN will try and pound them and keep NN spread off the field. NN has not seen this level of play yet in their foe's to date and I think GBN just at a slightly different level -
I will take the mild upset and take GBN to win this one (score predictor 35-28) - can I call that an upset since NN is undefeated and GBN already has a loss?
LP 2-2 vs. WN 2-2:
Playoff game for both schools.
LP has MV/GBN/NV/NC - schedule is very back loaded!!
WN has GBN/NV/NC/WV - also no Sunday morning stroll.
I predict the winner of this game - will make the playoffs and the loser will not.
I think LP Defense also keeps WN offense in neutral and pulls out a close one.
I take LP in a low scoring affair (score predictor 17-10)
NV 4-0 vs. Bishop 2-3 (Indiana 3A school)
See my earlier post.
Yawner - school of 4000 kids vs. a school of 600ish kids.
* yes - Bishop is a power in smaller school Indiana
* yes - they schedule like Montini and play some of the big boys and sometimes take them down
* yes they are the defending 3A champs and are a 13 time state title winner.
* no - look at how Montini is faring with the schedule of death
* no - most of Bishops current loses are to larger schools - NV is bigger school also.
*no - have you watched the state championships of Illinois in 1A, 2A and even 3A? yes they have some awesome players sprinkled in those teams, but the depth is not there and certain areas of the starting O and D wouldn't see the field in the higher classes. I thought some of the top Soph teams in the DVC in years past might be able hang with and beat the teams playing in the 1A and 2A title games. Just a different level altogether. I take NV in this one (56 - 24 score predictor - or whatever I said in my earlier post on the score prediction
)
