Week six picks below...
MV tossup LP ... hard to pick this game. Metea is the more talented team, but they have not found a way to win the close games (0-3). Lake Park has good line play and and a nice QB. MV blew out WN, then WN knocked off LP, so it makes sense to pick MV. Lake Park is scrappy, though, and if MV doesn't put them away early, could be trouble because LP is a 2nd half team. Both teams lost nail-biters to NN. Huge game for both, loser won't make the playoffs.
GN over WN ... might be closer than expected. GN has now lost two close DVC games, and they might be out for blood tonight. Is WN getting healthier? Looked like the roof was caving in a few weeks back, but the Falcons rebounded last week, beating LP 20-10.
NV over NN ... best defense the Huskies will face this year. Concerned about the wind, NN likes to throw the ball... and it is windy out there. Neutralizes the large stable of big, talented receivers. Neuqua is very balanced... can beat you many ways, so weather is less of an issue for the Wildcats. NV has rolled all year, with just one close game (WV). The Huskies have had three close wins. For NN to win... they must cut down on penalties, not turn the ball over, and hope the wind subsides.
WV over WWS ... The Tigers exploded in the 2nd half last week against NC, when they started playing their top players both ways. Will they do it again this week, now that they have been eliminated from the playoffs? Trap game for the Warriors? Might be closer that expected, and I think the Tigers will win at least one game this year. If WWS can hang close at halftime, then put their best on the field in 2nd half- they might spring the upset. If Ron decides to two-platoon, play everybody, and reward all the seniors that have stuck it out- then WV rolls.
Ohio over NC ... St. Edward is the 4th rated team in Ohio, and have already played some top-notch teams this year. I think the Redhawks could have beaten them with last year's team or even next year. SE is not scoring many points this year and is rated this high based on reputation IMO. Still a great program that will have too much for NC. I predict the Redhawks dig themselves too big of a first half hole, but make a respectable showing in the 2nd half.
