DVC Week 8

NV over LP JV
LP, who usually starts 13/14 juniors had (by my count) 7 starters in street clothes last week and essentially fielded a JV team. I am sure some will be back this week, but not all 7.
St. Mary Prep (MI) over WWS
As usual the Daily Herald gives us some great info, hats off to Schmidt & Oberhelman. SMP has won seven state titles including the past two years. They have numerous players with FBS offers/commitments.
NN over WV
If VooDoo could let us know which WV team is going to show up I could feel more secure about this pick.
NC over WN
NC run offense can be the difference. Tilt the field, win the field position game, take care of the ball. NC has the right formula for success. NC in a close one.
GN over MV
GN pass defense matches up well against MV strength which is their passing game. Yes, (I don't remember who said it,) but MV Soph. Thorne has a very bright future.

NN over WV - I just like the NN team.
WN over NC - Falcons keep playoff hopes alive. Fingers crossed.

Naperville Central 3-4 at Wheaton North 3-4
* Last week - NC ran into the greatest show on turf NN Huskies and all kinds of offensive records were set (and defenses were circling the wagons and stocking up on oxygen and water!
* Wheaton North ran into the vaunted NV Wildcat 3-3-5 Defense and hung tough for 3+ quarters

Outlook:
* Both teams fighting for a playoff spot – the winning team still in the race….the other is out.
* NC can’t go from 2015 conference champs to eliminated from playoffs.. (can they?
* We can’t have another year where both WWS and WN are not in the playoffs.. (can we?)
Somethings going to happen… what that is… I’m not sure. I think this will be a total dogfight - but I just cant wrap my head around NC not making the playoff field - I will take NC in this one.

Neuqua Valley 7-0 at Lake Park 2-5
* Thanks Anom - I was wondering what happened last week when I saw the score. Wasn't sure if LP pulled a "Waubonsie" and had a 5 turnover game or if there were injuries or what. They are definitely a better team than last weeks score.
* AHEM - That said... I am still taking NV in this one!!

WWS 2-5 at Orchard Lake St. Mary 4-3
* I will do a conference pick in this one. I would really like to see the DVC finish up their non con schedule 9-1!! WWS would have to win and next week Metea would have to beat a very good LWC team. Only loss would be NC to nationally ranked St Ed's of Ohio. If the conference is going to break up for the 2018-2019 school year - would like to see it go out with a bang the rest of this season and next season. I will take WWS as a homer conference pick in this one.

GBN 5-2 at Metea 2-5
* GBN too much for Metea. I will take GBN in this one.

Naperville North 6-1 at Waubonsie Valley 4-3
* Can anyone say Bi Polar? Jeckel/Hyde?
* As was the case last week - This game is off Voodoo's board.
* I will say that for WV to win they must not have one of their turnover fest games... but I think that can be said about any team!! and they need to shore up their run D. The hamiliton Indiana team was a pass happy team and did not test WV's run D like North will.
* In that same train of thought - I would also like to see a couple more guys go both ways in the push to reach the playoffs - but I guess the coaches know best so I will have to gear up for a nail biter in the stands eating my hot dog and catching a little bit of the Palatine/Barrington game on the Cube from my phone inbetween WV/NN plays.

Geez I know. But fortunately there is a ton of time in between WV offensive snaps. the QB usually heads over to the sidelines to get the play about 75% of the time.

AND I'm hopeful WV will be on offense a lot which would keep North's offense on the sidelines!

Playin game next week Wheaton North and Waubonsie Valley.

WV lost to NN 17-14. And the key most important metrics were
1. Turnovers: WV 2 NN 0
2 NN made their field goal
3 WV field goal blocked
4 WV going in for game tying FG or game winning TD and NN intercepted at 5 yard line

Hats off to North - they made the plays when it mattered and at critical times in the game
