Matt Rhule most likely had some heated phone conversations with Dominic Raiola or at least texts. This whole sorry mess was inevitable, Matt Rhule had to hit the eject button on the failed Raiola plan starting with Dayton then Dom and finally with letting Dylan walk on his own, it was inevitable.
Matt Rhule now has a hot seat and he knows it, we all know it, but it's not about money with him it's about pride about making this thing work at Nebraska and I believe he really wants to make it work. Matt Rhule has flushed out some bad hires and he still needs to do some more in my opinion and it's only my opinion but I hope he does.
He still needs to get that solid DL coach and he still has a few more coaches he needs to shore up to make this a solid coaching group where really good players will want to play.
I agree. Matt better hope that some of those 70-80 underclassmen are ready to go this fall. Some will have been in the program for 3 years now. And all the Frost players should be gone, so he owns 2026 totally. He better also push the AD for improvements in the S & C program. Clearly that is not a strength for us. 2026 will be year 4 and time is running out. No matter how bad things get next year, Matt knows NU can not fire him. Not thanks to the idiot AD we hired. Couple a brutal schedule with a half baked new ticket policy and you could very well see the sellout streak end unless Mutual Of Omaha wants to buy 25,000 tickets.
FYI this is the AI on the new ticket policy:
Nebraska fans have expressed significant dissatisfaction and concern regarding the athletic department's new ticketing policies for 2026, primarily centered on a shift towards prioritizing
donations over long-term loyalty for seat assignments and a crackdown on ticket reselling.
Key fan reactions to the changes include:
- Prioritizing Donors: A major complaint is that the new system for both football and volleyball will determine seating priority based on the amount of donations to the Huskers Athletic Fund, rather than how long a person has held season tickets. Long-time, general fans fear being pushed to less desirable seats or losing their tickets entirely to wealthier new donors.
- Increased Costs: The changes involve a mandatory donation component for all season ticket holders, ending a "grandfather" clause for some existing accounts. Fans reported surprise donation increases, sometimes double, which adds to the overall cost of attending games.
- Reselling Crackdown: Athletic Director Troy Dannen announced that accounts that resold all their tickets on secondary markets will be excluded from the ability to purchase season tickets in 2026. This move aims to ensure tickets are used by genuine fans, but has also been met with mixed reactions, as some fans use reselling as a necessary option.
- Concerns about Atmosphere: There are worries that replacing "diehard" long-time fans in the lower bowls with potentially wealthier, less consistent attendees could negatively impact the stadium's atmosphere and renowned home-field advantage.
- Lack of Transparency: Some fans, particularly for the volleyball reseating process (which is a precursor to football changes), expressed a wish for more transparency from the university instead of a "lottery" or "auction" style process.
In short, many fans feel that the changes are a "money grab" by the university and that their decades of loyalty are not being rewarded in the new, revenue-focused era of college athletics.
