I asked this under the portal thread. Should have asked here: How tall is Desmond? Does he have the length to fill into a 141?

I want to also note that Cael and Casey don't give two ***** about what people think when it comes to "you can't redshirt x or y or z wrestler" They have been doing this for 10 years now. David is now on year one of having to figure out how to do it.
They do have to care about what the wrestler thinks though in era of transfer portal and another rising superpower

That said I’m sure they can be quite persuasive in articulating potential benefits to both team and wrestlers

So I actually did hear the "Ono is good on bottom" is not just talk from a few people who talk to wrestlers. It was definitely a learning curve but he is brutally strong, explosive and shaped like a boulder basically so he naturally is built to be hard to grab onto and he understands the concept of finding hands pretty well.

But neutral (exposure rolls, no pushouts, the edge being allowed to play, leg passes, etc) is still a work in progress obviously but a lot of what you saw that made him great in free is translating as well. He also cannot ride at all I heard (which might not be a huge issue in most matches)

This deficiency will affect him in exactly one match: Davino. Jax and Seidel are moving up to 141. Can he take down Davino? My guess is, yeah, probably 3 or 4 times.

He has to stay out of the TB-1 matches, but I'd guess that's not going to be an issue for him.

Wouldn't Davino move up? Ohio State doesn't have another 141 option unless one of their 125s eats a lot.

Bouzakis might be the one to move up. It sure looked like the cut to 125 finally got to him in a three day tournament setting. They are wasting McCrone and Kilkeary as it is.

Agreed, but all the way to 141? Gonna give up a lot of length/reach while losing strength/power (which was his 1 big advantage). Maybe he and Davino both go up 1.

Out of the top 3 at 133, I think Davino is the least likely to move up. With that said, I think he SHOULD move up. What do you say? Also, isn't Bassett going at 141 next year also?

I really think they do what they feel is best, and if a wrestler leaves the next one steps up or transfers in.

Would be ideal to get connor in
That's kinda what I thought too. I don't think we lose any points at all overall, and I also think it solves a logjam in which the longest waiting guy is rewarded with a spot he deserves.

You guys are shooting for the old OkState weight management system. Help me remember who at Penn State under the current regime moved down a weight and had success? Conaway didn’t so much go down as he went up out of necessity in the first place.

Maybe Desmond goes down and Marcus goes up.

It’s probably such a tough decision for Connor, transferring would be leaving Cael and Cole.

At least there’s a path to him starting as a senior. The team that will deny Jax and Vega from ever winning a team championship

Herring went 6-1 at the Bloomsburg and Clarion Opens, all at 141.

He might compete for 141 next year, but most likely will shirt and then compete for 141 or 149.
I can't find him on wrestlestat. They usually have unattached matches.

In seriousness, we have had some guys drop weights in the past (other than Conaway and Bartlett who had wrestled up), but it was almost always an attempt to somehow squeeze into the lineup after the superstars picked their weights. It generally hasn't worked out so well -- i.e., Facundo cutting to 157 with Mesenbrink at 165 and Levi at 174, and losing out to Kasak.

Another example: McCutcheon moved up to 197 because Nickal moved up to 184. Mouse actually certified at 174 -- but his cert weight was almost exactly 174.0, IIRC 173.8 or 173.9, so he had almost no margin for weigh-ins. Hello, 197.

Still have no idea how Shak made 165 for a year, but 174 Nickal was the why.

Also not counting guys who wrestled up a weight during their shirt years because why bother cutting while shirting? Example: Ed Ruth.
