If Duke wants to wrestle, but can’t make 157 again, and can’t beat MM at 165, I don’t think you just move MM from his ideal weight.

I don’t know this, but I’m guessing Levi would have rather moved up from 157 to 165 instead of all the way to 174. 165 / 74 kilos is MM’s.
People need to stop moving MM off 165. It's his ideal weight. Lets take a bonus machine and move him up when not necessary. Silly IMO

If Cael asks Mitchell to go up to 174 then Mitchell will go up to 174.
The chances he asks are very slim. There is always a chance he wants to go 174, but it isn't something the staff is going to interject themselves into. They may give an opinion on Mitch's chances of winning 174 if ask. The only way I can see Mitch bumping to 174 is if the other options are not deemed favorable or available.

And I doubt they take him down either. Minto will do great at 184 even if it is the tougher weight. Him and Rocco is guaranteed OT😂
Who does Nebraska have to take over 174? Minto would be a betting favorite to stand atop the podium next year at 174, but 184 is a different animal. Minto does look absolutely enormous at 174. For certain, I'd just fast forward through the first 9 minutes of any match he has with Rocco and Ferrari and watch tiebreakers.

Shirting FR Tyler Eise, 2024 Super 32 champ. He's a good prospect. Colorado state champ who transferred to Gilroy CA to train with Cormier.

Barring an import, one of them will need to go up to 184 next year. None of their other 174/184s had a winning record last year.

They have Tyler Eise. Top recruit who should see the lineup at whatever weight Minto doesn’t go. I think Minto should stay at 174 but he looks massive. Maybe he can’t make it anymore

el jefe beat me to it

I was shocked at his year it wasn't good 7-6 record . He's gonna struggle in the big 10 he's not ready for that yet. He lost to the Utah Valley kid who was 17-16 and a qualifier. He did beat Baer Binghamton early in the year which is a good win. But he was up and down overall. Nebraska doesn't have a 184 who's ready either so it will be Eise/Minto unless they land a transfer. I don't see Jason Singer being ready as a true freshman and he might be a 197

Me too.

Singer's not gonna be ready without a shirt. It's one thing to not break into FCA's lineup, though that's not a good sign for being an immediate D1 starter. But he got teched by Waters in under 3 minutes in January.

I think Cael usually ask his real good guys what weight they wanna go!He has enough other guys to fill in!!!

Mesenbrink will show him he isn't wrestling 165.
Under the scenario I offered, that is exactly how it would be handled. More likely there is a conversation between teammates and everybody ends up on the same page of who goes where.

I was not saying Cael will ask Mitch to move up. My point is that IF Cael were to ask, Mitch would do it. It's a point about how great of a team guy Mitchell is. I have no idea what Cael asks of the guys, and frankly I don't think anyone else does either. That's as it should be: I think mainly Cael asks that everyone get ready for dodgeball season or else they face extra duty with the taxidermy specialist for Levi and Ken 😂

He could wrestle each of the four for a half hour and might never get a takedown
True but none of them are actually lighting up the scoreboard. Minto can scramble and didn't get taken down by levi in 2 straight matches. Of course he stalled a lot but just saying minto is waaaay better than people give him credit for

People are saying he is favored at 174. How much credit do you want him to have?????

I'm not understanding the mm going up why not pj going up to 174. He has the frame for it. Levi did it why can't pj

Trust Cael. Trust these young men. It will all be ok. Mitch would do anything ask of him, but Cael never asks guys to sacrifice individual goals for the team. I'm guessing Mitch and PJ have plenty of relationship to talk honestly about the future.

Not concerned either way. Just keeping the conversation lively. Didn't realize it was such a horrible and inconceivable idea. Sure hope it never happens now 😂

Just my 2 cents on that.
If the plan is for him to go 165 after Mitchell, then putting the weight on for 174 and cutting back down the year after may be counterintuitive. If 174 is eventually the plan then it makes sense to just go now. Somebody really good is going to sit somewhere along the way. James (maybe) or Sealy can man 165 after Mitchell.

I am going to guess they both have an idea who is the alpha dog at the weight.

From all the talk, it seems James is destined for higher weights than 165

Let's assume Mitchell and PJ just can't agree on what to do about their competitive weight, they both want to wrestle 165. You guys honestly believe the staff just tells PJ he can't wrestle 165?
The staff tells him win it on the mat or you fill in if needed and be great teammate. Cael is not telling any top 5 kids wher they will wrestle. Maybe his thoughts or plan for kids best outlook. Cael not that guy

Cole is an Askren kid and they ALL improve gradually, not suddenly. Cole will be just fine. However I have no idea why anyone thinks Ono is going to wrestle at 141 😂. His match with Vega would look like David vs Goliath 😂.

What do I want? I want Stanich actually.
Would be some interesting team dynamics if they brought in Stanich.

No, they will allow him to challenge Mitch if he wants. Good luck with that.

I doubt Stanich has any interest in going somewhere where he has to beat out Marcus Blaze for a starting spot. LOL.

Not that I think it will happen, but never say never.

Elite wrestlers like Messenbrink, Rocco, and Max Dean didn't shy from competition. A 4-1 SV to Mendez was Stanich's only loss; I can see where he might have a lot of confidence in himself.

Blaze to 141 could be a 2-year plan with Stanich going to 149 in 2028.
