This board can be a fountain of misinformation and pipe dreams at times.
It's hard at times . I gotta remember most people are just fans and don't know anything or have any connections. And I'm one who likes facts. So I tend to be correcting things which makes people dislike you. But I would rather people not like me then have people believing things that aren't true

Incorrect. He has three years left. He wrestled 2024-25 season as a true frosh and then red shirted this season.
No…

23/24-was going to RS, but became starting 149 when SVN lost to injury… L1/W7 to finish third

24/25-starting 157… more conventional path to third

25/26-RS

Looking at just this year does not make any sense and I bet the coaches would agree. Red shirting Blaze and Duke for the 2026-27 season makes sense because we do not need their points and have others that will score almost as many points and it also means they will still be around for 2029-2030. Ignoring that IMHO is just plain silly.
Obviously Cael and his wrestlers will balance the future with the current. But it’s just a lil’ weird to get upset talking about what the current maximized point would look like and then discuss from there.

But the statement “we have others who will score as many points” is definitely incorrect. That’s why it’s productive to first analyze the maximum line up and then see who you may want to RS and figure out the opportunity cost of doing so.

And as someone else mentioned the Olympic year might throw a wrench into things. Also we should never underestimate OK State.

I think the plan started last year when Kasak took his redshirt. Most guys at PSU redshirt at some point in their career. Levi is the only one coming to mind right now that did not. Duke and Kasak both had the talent this year to win it all. Duke taking a redshirt next year makes sense. Kasak and MM both graduate so if Duke can make 57 he slots right in, if not, he slots right in at 65. If James walks around in the low 60s and doesn't get much bigger, I would assume he takes the spot opposite Duke. Even though I think Milheim is grossly underrated, I think James redshirts for sure after watching tonight. That also gets Henckel, a u20 silver medalist into the lineup and Southern Scuffle winner into the lineup for at least a year, possibly more depending on how weights shake out. Then you have Rocco and Asher at 84, Connor and Barr at 97, Cole and Brown at Hwt. Down low it sounds like LL is locked in at 25, SVN at 49. Again, I think Blaze at least starts the year in RS. Ono and Desmond will man 33/41 in some combo, and Blaze only comes out of RS if needed, which I don't think will be the case. What an incredible problem to have, and we will all be partially right and partially wrong come next year, but it is fun to talk about and wonder.
Kasak will have another year

And ignoring they're freestyle guys and the 2028 Olympic RS situation is silly. Not many people RS 2 years in a row willingly
The 2028 Olympic shirt is a red herring. In 5 Olympic shirt years under Cael, 2020 Manville and 2024 Facundo were the only ones to use it. Neither were potential starters in that year.

I won't be surprised if it does get used in 2028, because we'll have so many qualified guys and only 10 starting spots. I will be surprised if it's a serious factor in determining the starting lineup.

The most recent and very relevant example is Brooks. He was definitely in mid season conditioning form and his best in season preparation was wrestling Snyder, Cael and Varner every day. That plan worked very well considering who he needed to beat just to make the team.

I have said many times 2027 will determine lots of that with who medals. Depth won't be an issue. In the years past the depth wasn't what it is now. We definitely won't see a punt year

Except that Brooks never shirted, Olympic or otherwise.

Hall, RBY, Nick Lee, and Bartlett didn't. Barring injury Lilledahl won't.
I know you weren't doing this to be a smart ***, but 5 wrestlers (as of now including Levi) in the 16 years Cael has coached here. Just want to point out Hall started out in redshirt, and Lee spent his senior season in the room. Not officially a redshirt but the closest thing to it. Kasak also did that.

I would also like to point out:
Mark Hall replaced Garret Hammond.
RBY's true freshman year, the others listed at 33 were Austin Clabaugh, Jack Davis 25/33, Jon Consotri 33/41, Patrick Higgins 33/41, Mason Lindenmuth, Brandon Mereditch 25/33, Scott Stossel 33/41.
Nick Lee was pretty much the same as RBY.
BB wrestled at 49 above his true weight class due to Nick Lee for 2 years.

The reason I bring all that up? As dominant as PSU has been, the guys you mentioned wrestled as true freshman due to "lack" ( I use that term loosely ) of depth. They were far and away the best option. Next year, and lately, most of the back ups would be expected to AA. LL already said he's going 25 next year. There are 3 guys for 2 spots at 33/41. Someone will be watching. Desmond used his redshirt, kind of unclear how many years Ono has, Blaze has a RS to use. SVN at 49. 5 guys for 3 spots - Kasak, Duke, MM, Henckel, and I'll even throw Sealey in there for 57-74. Only 1 has a RS to use. 2 guys for 84 with Rocco and Asher and neither has a RS. Connor and Barr at 97. Cole and Elijah at HWT. I'm assuming even though Elijah is a hammer on top, he probably won't have the weight or strength to compete with Cole so he'll use his redshirt.

I point out all of that to say this. We are extremely fortunate with the roster the staff has assembled. Will anyone jump ship in a few days? Possibly. But the staff has to get creative in RS usage and getting guys into lineup. None of us know what these guys will weigh next year or what the plan is. Whatever the lineup is next year, they'll be the favorites again, and if an in season adjustment needs to be made, it will be. Cael is probably already working on the lineup for 2030 trying to figure out who they want to target, and when RS will be used to make it all work.

The guy who hit just 40% of his lineup prognostication two years ago is talking about misinformation and pipe dreams.

If you look at it other than Facundo and Nagao getting hurt. 9 of the guys were in the lineup just some just bumped up a weight. Glad you have the time to so me the error of my ways.

I’m sorry that it’s hard at times correcting people who are just fans and don’t know anything or have any connections. It has to be tough doing the truth, justice and the American way thing. Thank you for your service.
Probably 97% + on here know Kasak’s situation, but weren’t heroic enough to tell some fan on a message board that he or she was wrong and inferior to them. Some replies gave the correct info, but just weren’t condescending enough. Glad you took care of it.

The whole idea of maximum point production in a vacuum is a useless exercise. It's not productive, in fact it's destructive. The fact you think your method is superior to Cael's is absurd. You didn't say it but you sure implied it.

I certainly did not make the assumption that Duke could beat MM. Here are the assumptions that I made:

1. MM would win 174 and gain almost same exact team points as he would have had at 165
2. Duke at 165 would earn more team points than Henckel at 174. Most of us would expect Duke to win and collect many bonus points in process. Would we expect the same from Henckel? While some have suggested I underrate Henckel I do think he has potential for a high podium finish, just not as high as Duke nor as many bonus.

This is viewing the situation from a mathematical games perspective. Such as trying to maximize our three lines in Chinese Poker if any are familiar with that.
You're approaching MSU level of tenaciously sticking to a ridiculously stupid argument. Adding 5-10 points to what is likely a 25-30 point margin at the expense of moving people away from their optimal weights is just not going to happen. If Mitch wants to move up to 174 for some unknown reason, that is the only way he'll be at 174. If he wants to stay at 165, which I and most others expect, he will, period. There's no math about forcing guys out of the weights they want to wrestle going on at all. Cael has never operated like that.

It’s Henckel

Not sure why you get emotional and personal about it. It’s just math and based upon the pure amount of studs in program.

Case in point, had they done a wrestle off this year one of Kasak or Duke would have lost and top two 157 wrestlers in nation were in same room

I do actually think we would be likely to break our own records again regardless of our lineup. There are a few weights that might not get us the same point total though.

We should not discount OK state though. I’m guessing DT will try and upgrade. And two years in a row they have both overachieved and brought in and wrestled athletes we had no idea were going to be there

But this is a fun exercise to kill some time before US Open lol
No love anywhere for Joe Sealy.

Suriano is in the room training right now
The funny thing about this one is it was probably true.. He was training just not live wrestling..
Cael doesn't seem to lie, but he's very careful with what he says. If you draw the wrong conclusion with what he says that's on you...

He was on crutches at the time. Maybe he was doing pull ups 🤷
